And the TA I was working with had a significant birthday coming up - 21.

I told her I was double her age. And the class were doing the 70s for history. I was their living witness to history.

Yes - we had 3 channels. No - no CBBC, No CITV.

I feel old.

I had to teach an A-level class all about the 80s last year. I showed them Spitting Image - they'd never heard of any of the politicians although Margaret Thatcher rang a few faint bells.

chocoluvva Fri 18-Jan-13 00:10:34

Know what you mean.

When you think something is "modern studies" but it's taught in history grin

DD and her friend (both 16) hadn't heard of Humphrey Bogart.

Loquace Fri 18-Jan-13 00:11:04

WTF?

That should....illegal!

Gawd, a bunch a of nine year olds will be around to dig me up as a fossil for their project before you know it.

Loquace Fri 18-Jan-13 00:12:14

be, I know there should be a verb in there somewhere.

<blames memory loss due to being "in a history lesson" age>

OldLadyKnowsNothing Fri 18-Jan-13 00:14:56

Oh, fantastic! My dgs starts school in about 18 months, I grew up in the '70s, perfect "Ask yer granny" question! grin

HoHoHoNoYouDont Fri 18-Jan-13 00:18:54

DeepRedBetty Fri 18-Jan-13 00:20:30

Loquace Fri 18-Jan-13 00:20:53

They have MUTTONED us!

We have become historical artifacts dressed up as current affaires.

<starts a petition>

Yy. "Music of the 80s" as a topic in history. Been there, suffered that. But pleased to say that DS came top of the class with his analysis of the New Romantic movement and the influence of the Blitz Club.

Loquace Fri 18-Jan-13 00:25:55

Music of the 80s as a topic in history

<THUD>

tigerdriverII Fri 18-Jan-13 00:31:36

Well they were only 10 and really it was music "in history". Being from the 50s.... Aaarrrgggh. DS did end up with a treatise on popular music to beat all treatises, and all the words and images were chosen by him. Just a little prompting by me grin

Sunnywithshowers Fri 18-Jan-13 00:33:43

I feel your pain.

I've just started uni at the grand old age of 41. I'm 13 years older than my youngest lecturer, and up to 24 years younger than my classmates. Half of them wear crap I disdained in the 80's because it's 'vintage'.

Le sigh.

thebody Fri 18-Jan-13 00:34:16

Omg,, bham and the auzzie club.. Broad street and Duran Duran and UB40..

Loquace Fri 18-Jan-13 00:37:54

Wake Me up Before You Go Go is now basically a medieval madrigal.

I might as well walk like an egyptian now I am practically offically mummifed.

Jumble sale crap is "vintage" ?

<scrabbles in back of wardrobe in search of silver lining>

tigerdriverII Fri 18-Jan-13 00:41:34

Hey ho Loquace

Startail Fri 18-Jan-13 00:41:57

I saw Duran Duran last year, they still rock.

I was 3 in 1970 that's not history !

tigerdriverII Fri 18-Jan-13 00:42:50

I think that's before the 80s, so prehistory or nearly palaeontology

Sunnywithshowers Fri 18-Jan-13 00:44:21

Loquace they're wearing crap my gran wore. In 1986. grin

Get thee to Ebay pronto!

Loquace Fri 18-Jan-13 00:46:03

<aided by copious amounts of Red, Red, Wiiiine>

ThePathanKhansWitch Fri 18-Jan-13 00:47:26

Is my frilly shirt, ala Adam Ant, about to end up in the V&A.
We need a campaign to stoo this nonsense.
The 70,s were just the other day.1976, I,ve still got the tan marks on my feet from my Jesus sandals.

ThePathanKhansWitch Fri 18-Jan-13 00:48:09

Stop, even.

OldLadyKnowsNothing Fri 18-Jan-13 00:48:49

<surveys wardrobe>

I have at least one vintage 80's dress, barely worn, is it really worth anything? It's a high-lycra content fabric, looks great on the young and toned, realistically I'm 50... Has Good Memories for me, though.
