As above. She'll be wrapped up warm of course - but AIBU to 'drag' her out whilst it's this cold & icey?

As long as they aren't cold I don't see the problem?
My little boy is 1... Just and I have always taken him whatever the weather just wrapped up like a snowman!

Its fine! Wrapped up cosy, the fresh air will do you both good, and you can stop for a sneaky hot choc too

By the time they hve all the layers of clothes and blankets or a cosy toes and the hood of the pram up or the cover of the pushchair they will be just as snug as they are at home. Just watch out they don't overheat when you go into the shops, it always seems to be boiling inside them with the heating running full blast.

Should be fine if she's wrapped up. I have a 7-week-old and we'll be staying in, but if I had to go out I would just bundle her up. They must have to do it in places like Finland and Canada!

I did it lots when DS was a baby. Go and have fun!

She'll be absolutely fine and will probably sleep like a log from the fresh air.

We lived in North East Germany until DD was one. At 3 months we (and literally thousands of other people and babies) were merrily trotting around Christmas markets at -10.

We were cold - DD was lovely and toasty.

FWIW we had months of temperatures lower than this and always went out. DD is as strong as an ox and is very rarely ill.

Wrap up and enjoy.

As long as she's wrapped up warm it's fine.

Hat, cosy toes, snowsuit.....

And you too!!

Have fun, grab a coffee...that's what we're about to do with 6 month old Dd.

It will be fine, as others have said the main thing is to make sure she is wrapped up warm enough outside, but to be certain to strip off the layers promptly if you go inside - take off hats/blankets, at least unzip a snowsuit to uncover the chest even if you can't wrestle the whole thing off.

If your baby is lying flat in a pram with the hood up they'll probably be fairly sheltered and cosy. Using something to line the pram or wrapping blankets right the way round the body, rather than just using them as a cover, will be warmer.

My DC2 was the same age this time last year, and had to go out every day for a similar length of time to pick up her older sister. The coldest it got was minus 18! - I'm not in the UK. But DD was always toasty warm.

My DS is 4 weeks old and he has not experiences + degrees yet. We live in scandinavia and it has been cold and snowy every time we have been out.

He has a sheepskin and sleepingbag with a fluffy jumper and hat. I worry he is too hot rather than too cold.

I'm taking my 4 month old for an hrs walk - wouldn't even occur to me not to!

Of course it's fine, why wouldn't it be?

Try not to 'drag' her anywhere though...use a pram or something Grin

We did the school run which takes almost 1 hour in total, in -3, dd is 19 months now but I did the same last year. Today she had a vet, sleep suit, fleecy sleeper, snowsuit, blanket and cosytoes. Wrap them up and it is no problem.

We don't have a car so don't really have the option not to go out because it's cold. As other have said as long as they're wrapped up properly it's fine - for me it's actually quite nice out once you get striding along and I like DD to get a bit of fresh (even if it's cold) air round her face at least once every day!

It's fine. If you use the rain cover to keep the baby warmer don't forget to take it off when in shops as they get hot very quickly.

My boys used to sleep out in the pram in the snow - the fresh air is good for them as long as they are appropriately dressed and wrapped.

When It got really snowy one time when eldest was about 6 months - we couldn't use the pram and I had a bad back and was pregnant, so i straped him to a sledge and got about that way :)

It's fine! Confused Why on earth would you worry? They'll be wrapped up warm as you said.

I'm more concerned about dragging myself out than any children TBH... I hate the cold! DS begs me not to make him wear his coat Confused

Locketjuice wrapping your dc up like a snowman is really not suitable! A scarf, hat and a carrot for a nose really isn't going to keep them warm Shock Grin

Should be ok although I remember mine struggling for breath if the wind started blowing. Was a bit scary (they were wrapped up though).

After that if it was windy and bitter, I'd use the rain cover.

Of course it's fine, she's 5 months not 5 days! Imagine if you lived in certain areas of Scotland or god forbid Russia. As long as she's wrapped up it's fine and the fresh air will do her good.

Put the rain cover on too. My DS doesn't like breathing in the cold air, but is fine under the raincover.

Er yes it's fine, do you plan on staying in for winter?

Report
minouminou · 17/01/2013 11:13

Absolutely fine!
The only thing you need to worry about us overheating when you get into a shop.
In Scandinavia people put children out for naps in their prams.....depending on your region, the limit is -10 or -15! They do have pram covers on, though, so the air immediately around them is a bit warmer.
Of course they have all sorts of ergonomic clothing trickery to help, but at -3, you don't need much beyond a hat, snowsuit etc etc.
