AIBU?

To have a naked woman in my kitchen?

DH says she must go, she's weirding people out.

I've got a large print of a nude painting and she's framed and above the kitchen table. The DCs (5&3) are pretty immune to her but their friends do sometimes pass comment. To the trained artistic eye she does look post-coital but not to small children, obviously.

DH is adamant that everyone thinks it's me in the picture (no, I wasn't Modigliani's muse) and also that it's odd to have it where people are eating. I think nudes are normal and he's being prudish.

AIBU?

YANBU and your DH is being a prude

I like Modigiliani and the kitchen is as good a place as any for a print

I personally have no problem with nude women in my kitchen. Or any other room Grin

It's the kitchen part that I think is a little bit U.

He didn't seem to like some of his models...

I think the kitchen is unusual but not weird or anything.

YANBU it sounds fine. My parents had a glass sculpture in the shape of an upside down erect penis in our hall way for years. I think I was about 14 before I realised what it was.

Not to hijack your thread but if I have two A2 size charcoal drawings of me nude. They are really nice but I've bottled out of displaying them in the house. Need suggestions of what I should do with them.

So the issue is more just eating around bits on show?

Hmmmm. I could probably move it. Because it's kind of studenty I sort of thought the kitchen was the best place for it.

Lol at the penis in hall! Can you put the drawings of you up in your bedroom?

Thank god the kitchen pic isn't actually of me naked. That would put people off their food.

No wall space in our bedroom, we are in a converted bungalow so are in the eaves and have sloped walls/ceiling. The choice would either be the spare room so all our overnight guests could spend the night looking at me naked, or my home office, where I occasionally host clients.

You can see why I've bottled it... Grin

Never mind your pictures Unexpected - your nickname is the best I've ever seen on here - awesome. Grin

I agree growlithe. Often think I was too quick to pick a name '& it's very boring compared to others - but that is sheer genius! X

YANBU but if DP is uncomfortable with it perhaps you should move it to another room out of courtesy to him? Next time you're uncomfortable with something hopefully he will return the favour!

Oh God, DH has a rather large Modigliani nude that is still languishing in a poster tube somewhere because I - and I realise this is going to make me sound utterly unbearable - don't think you should have prints of wildly famous artists in the house. Art worth hanging should either be 'off-piste' prints or actual originals.

So on this basis, a world-famous nude hovering over your breakfast table is definitely U.

Mum and Dad - not adhering to my rule - had a print of Michaelangelo's David in our tiny downstairs loo (he took up virtually an entire wall) when we were kids and our friends thought it was outrageous.

Maybe source a lesser-known nude...?

Yanbu to hang art where you like

Yabu if your dp doesn't like it, he lives there too!

You could have mine Grin

Thank you YorkshireDeb and Growlithe you are too kind Blush :)

Midnight, I know what you mean.

It is a bit like a poster of vanGogh's sunflowers, strictly for the under 20s, imo

We have gradually swapped art posters for "real" art though sadly not van Gogh or Modiliani...

I rather like nude women myself, so perso I would have no objection to it!

Your DP's a prude, but it's his home too. If he really doesn't like it.....

Midnight, am very curious- why not?!

I have some nice prints Grin and three of them are nudes (I didn't plan it....)! Picasso, Munch, Toulouse Lautrec......they're pretty wildly famous.

It's just a bit déclassé, quirrel - but hopefully you're one of those people who just doesn't care about such class-ridden nonsense, so it doesn't matter anyway. :)

I'm in kind of the same boat as Midnight... as a result there's definitely no well known artists or prints in our house.

I have no idea why I have this aversion, I think just the thought of everyone having the same pictures of people dancing, vase of flowers, nudey ladies, japanese bridges is a bit weird. Can't put my finger on it.

I think YABU it is his kitchen too and if it makes him uncomfortable than you should take it down. Personally non-graphic nudes in the kitchen would be fine for me but i get why some people wouldn't like it.

TinyDancingHoofer · 12/01/2013 13:02

Actually I think i'd only be comfortable with a nude woman. Eating with a picture of a flaccid penis on the wall would be grim.

Report
SundaeGirl · 12/01/2013 13:20

DH says I should make it clear to art snobs that this is an exhibition poster.

I think you are right about the flaccid penis but an erect one might be scarier.
