to want a tumble dryer?

My DH and I try really hard to be energy efficient, turning off lights, turn thermostat down etc. At the moment we dry the washing over airers including a heated one.
But my laundry drying pile is never ending, DH is a nurse so needs clean uniform each shift and we use cloth nappies....really starting to want a tumble dryer. AIBU to want one for a slightly easier life? Thinking about January sales...

I bought one earlier this year.

It's revolutionised my laundry. It's upstairs in my wardrobe (box room) so my house doesn't have piles of washing drying everywhere or waiting to be put away. I wish I'd bought one years ago.

Of course YANBU. Mine stopped working on Friday afternoon (typical!) and I'm lost without it - it's just a mightmare trying to dry clothes, and when they do (eventually) dry the towels are crunchy and the clothes are creased and look like they need to be ironed

Keep an eye on freecycle. We got ours from there, all it needed was a new hose thing. I now do not know how I did without it.

If it was a choice between a dishwasher and a tumble dryer, I'd get the latter and buy paper plates. We just upgraded ours to a v v efficient Miele one and it senses how wet your stuff is and stops when it's done. No need to iron ever either.

How on earth you do cloth nappies without a tumble dryer is beyond me! Do it, they're a massive life enhancement.

Um, it's 2012. You are not U for wanting a tumble dryer! They are a life saver for bedding, towels and I suppose stuff like uniform! Get one, Beko's are really decent and pretty cheap. Get one with decent sensor drying if you can - lovely to have your clothes dried rather than toasted to a cinder / left wet when you mis judge the timer.

Our flat bad a horid cheap indisit, hate the thing and miss my lovely beko!

Oh hell yes I would hand wash dishes and get rid of my Dishwasher before going without a dryer.
I hang most things to dry, but don't want the house cluttered up all winter every day. All socks and undies get tumbled just to get them out of the way. Then I finish off a lot of stuff like Jeans or they'd never make it back in the clean clothes they never dry out for days.

Cannot imagine using cloth nappies without a tumble dryer!!! How have you been coping? It's fine in the summertime when they can dry in a couple of hours but winter? No no no.

You need a tumbledryer. There are some very energy efficient ones out there. Mine's a good one, and I still use it part-time, preferring to air-dry the clothes overnight (when it's not in the way of anyone) and then tumbledry to finish it off in the morning. It doesn't use much at all.

We got one a couple of months ago when the weather got too cold to dry stuff otuside and it became obvious that I couldn't keep up with the washing without one (potty training DS doesn't help ). We got a Bosch and it just plugs in and away you go - its not plumbed in so you have to empty the condenser drawer but that's fine. I can't imagine it would be less environmentally friendly than disposable nappies.

It will also seriously reduce condensation in your house. The amount of water that comes out of the condenser in ours after every load makes me glad it's not all drying around the house.

And, no more horrible, crispy towels.

I will never understand the aversion to tumble dryers in the UK. Would you wash your clothes by hand? Or course not. So why dry them by hand?

We don't have space for a tumble dryer.

When we move house it is the first thing we are buying. We have a problem with condensation so have to go to the laundrette to dry clothes. The staff there are really rude and are overly generous with their parenting advice and comments on people's underwear.

They use soo much energy, if you're concerned about the environment (as it sounds like you are, reusable nappies etc), then don't get one.

Yes, yes, they are horrible for the environment and cause higher electric bills. Blah blah blah, save the planet.

So what? I'd rather save myself the work. And the mould all over the house from the constant damp of clothes drying.
