Hi everyone what are people's views on people under occupying there council homes , I no of a couple of people that are over 65 that live in 4 bedroom houses by there self they have to pay no rent the state of the houses are disgusting as they are to fragile to clean the houses they are in surley the council should In force a law that just because these people have lived in these houses for years dosent mean they should keep them they both have 3 spare bedrooms just sitting there shouldn't they be made to downsize ?? To a 2 bedroom or something it's not fair that these young couples with 3 -4 kids have to keep them in a flat with no garden while these oaps can't Evan take care of them selfs properly let alone a massive house !!

Perhaps young couples shouldn't have 3-4 dc when they live in flats with no gardens?

I agree with Oldlady. It was their choice to have so many children in such a small place. Do they just expect to be given a bigger house because they can't stop breeding?

When you are able to spell, use grammar, construct a sentence that is comprehensible, do come back and posit an argument.

I believe they're doing exactly that - tenancies are going to be reviewed every 5 years going forward aren't they? But if you're elderly, have lived in one area all your life and are dependent on local family to help you when needed, it doesn't necessarily make sense to force you out of your home and move somewhere else away from your family. Practically, how would an 80 year old pack all their stuff and load it into a lorry? And a 2 bedroom flat is not necessarily going to be accessible to an elderly person. The root of the issue here is not the fact that people are underoccupying council houses - it's that private rented is so insecure and expensive that people feel they have no choice but to hang onto their council place tightly.

Is someone a little bitter perhaps?
The rules are changing, and people will be made to downsize.

I don't understand what age has to do with it.

Wasn't there a similar thread last year, or maybe in 2010? I remember it turned into a bun fight.
YANBU to think it, but there are lots who'll ball you out for posting it.

Presumably, these young couples with 3-4 children, living in a cramped flat, have reported to the police the person holding them at gun-point and repeatedly forcing them to have numerous babies in a country where free contraception is widely available
Yes?

Nice, OP. Look, this topic has been done to death several times and you're really not adding anything, fancy phone or not.
And which charm school did you graduate from OP

I'm not saying these old people should be chucked out from there houses they should be givern main priority of we're they would like to live for example bungerlos or maisonettes these people I'm talking about cannot keep the up keep of there property's there smelly there dirty I think the council should give them money for any rooms they are downsizing I just think there should be a law that If you are a single person 1 spare bedroom is defiantly enough
[lends jude a mild dilution of bleach with which to rinse her eyes...]
I take it all back...all of it...I will never, ever tell DD1 (9.5) off again for her poor spelling and punctuation.

Do you have specific people in mind, or are all over-65s smelly, dirty and incapable of looking after themselves?

OAPs are exempt from the new rules regarding under-occupying and bedroom tax and tenancy reviews, Natasha.
We lived in a flat with no garden with 3 kids and now with 2. Imagine that!
You've done well then, I only made it as far as givern before my hands spontaneously plucked my eyes out of my head and hid them in this desk drawer, as an act of mercy...
The OP either insulted me...or told me her favourite recipe for chocolate mousse...I have no idea, could be either...can someone translate?
[looks hopeful]
