To hate the lights in Clarks shoes...

Please help me fellow mumsnetters...

I find it really hard to find girls shoes I like and am gutted to pay £30 for the pleasure of buying shoes I don't like!

I eventually bought a pair of Clarks in sale online without realising they had lights in them. Is there any way of turning them off? They are style: Ella Shine Fst www.clarks.co.uk/p/20349677.

Thanks for your help.

Don't worry, the lights die after the first 2 weeks. They have ime anyway.

Does your DD like the lights?

There's usually a bbutton hidden slightly in the sole on the side.

Right shoe - front right 2/3 the way round - there's a bump/bubble sticking up a bit in their photo - that might be the switch. If not - you're buggered Xmas Grin

Did you buy them on-line OP? They're reduced from £30 to £20 :(

There was a little girl at my niece's birthday party last week wearing these shoes that squeak with each step. The exact same squeak that teddies or noisy toys make. They drove me mad. God knows what the parents were thinking. Hmm

they must be so irritating. Lights ok, squeaks not ok!

My DD (when she was 3yo) wore the lights out in a week, then wore through the sole so the light battery came out of the bottom of the shoe. Are shoes not designed for walking any more? She walks a few miles a day (plus school playtime), doesn't seem that far, the shoes can't have lasted more than 3 months.
I get start rite now.

Does your dd like them?

Oh we had the squeakers, just because I really liked the shoe! We filled the squeaker in with glue, so it didn't make a sound.
They are actually meant for visualy imapaired parents, so they can hear their child even if they can't see them.
op I understand, we had the flashy lights Clarks shoes and I wasn't overly keen, but the kids love them and they wear out.

Yanbu...

They are hideous. I wanted some as a kid, my mum always refused. At the time I hated her for it, now i'm thankful. They're dreadful. Tbf clarks shoes are in general. I know they are good for the feet/long lasting but why do they need to make them all so very ugly??? Surely its not difficult to make nice looking shoes which are also long lasting and good for their feet.

Angry it made me laugh as the parents were saying the exact same thing and an elderly man asked which of them was blind? :o

yanbu. dd once had some lovely patent Clarks school shoes - they did have lights but there were buttons to switch them off. That should be OK, I thought. Wrong! The buttons broke and the lights were on permanently, not just when dd walked but ALL THE TIME. It took 3 days for them to conk out, during which time dd couldn't wear them for school! I've never bought those type again... but don't get me started on the toy shoes....

YABU

I would have killed for those shoes when I was a little girl.

Those and the made-for-a-princess ones with a tiny key in the heel.

You are a mean mummy Angry

They were actually a Godsend on one occasion. I was at a busy christening. It was outdoors at a tennis club. I got chatting to some people and lost sight of dd,who was nearly 2.
I started to inwardly panic, but didn't want to cause a scene.
I scanned everywhere but couldn't see her/
Then I heard a "squeak squeak squeak" it was dd and her shoes. The glue had dried up and the squeaker was sounding again!
I was able to locate dd by following the squeak Grin

I guess that's what you get for buying kid's shoes online, rather than in a proper shoe shop where they also get properly fitted.

The only other shoes I like have holographic dinosaurs on them. What is wrong with just SHOES??

I quite like the lights from a road safety point of view.

We live in a rural area, not that many streetlights. If we have to go out near dusk We have reflective bands, led flashers, and the shoes.

Just stick them through the washing machine. My dds both have lights at the moment. Dd1's have a switch but have stopped working anyway after too much puddle jumping. Dd2's have no switch and are still going strong, mainly because she usually wears her wellies.

I had the shoes with a key and trainers with lights when I was littleGrin
