Why can't people clean up after their dogs?

It's disgusting! On the way to and from school every everyday I'm having to constantly point out the dog mess on the floor so my son dosent end up standing in it! I don't understand why someone keeps a dog if they can't be bothered to clean up after them?! Is it just me that's annoyed by this or am I just over reacting?Shock

Not just you. I honestly cannot understand the difficulty of taking a plastic bag with you, scooping up the poo and putting it in a bin. When I was 16, I walked my dog every morning and did that. If there was no public bin, I took it home with me. If a stroppy teenage girl can be bothered, why can't anyone else?

Should add I don't have a dog now. She died when I was at uni and then I moved away.

I agree that it's disgusting. Someone didn't clean up their dogs mess left right outside our drive, I had to clean it up and wash it down, I wasn't best pleased. I also do the poo dodging with my children on the way to the school.

One dad at the school walks his dog there in the mornings, he let it do it's business outside the school then walk away, we did say haven't you forgotten your dog poo, he just stared at us, and walked off Angry

Yanbu. You wouldn't see adult poo or baby poo or nappies smeared around on the ground so why is dog poo?

kiwigirl42 · 04/12/2012 09:43

its just foul. I always pick up after our dog. Part of having a dog is having to pick up shit so if people can't do that then they shouldn't have a dog IMO

YANBU, our school run each day is spent dodging the dog poo, and me trying to get the children to their schools without stepping in it. They seem just not to see it littering the pavement, so I have to say mind the dog poo, and then grab them if required.

I was talking to a dog owner the other day, who said that her teenagers never pick up the poo when they take the dog for a walk in the evening, I was so cross. If they aren't old enough to take responsibility to clean up after the dog, they should not be walking it.

YANBU.

This makes me mad!! It is disgusting and rude not to clean up after your dog! Yesterday I got dog poo on my pram wheel as it must have been in the middle of the pavement Angry

As if I don't have anything better to do than wipe dog poo off the pram wheels...

Oh yanbu..This is probably one of my biggest pet hates. I don't like dogs which makes it worse.

Its just EVERYWHERE. I don't understand why its so hard to take a carrier bag with you and pick it up. It is the worst thing having to poo dodge, stepping in it and argh pram wheels in it. It makes me SO angry. I can't even take my DC for a walk on the field behind us because everyone walks their dog there and rarely does anyone pick it up. It is disgusting.

Don't own a stinky dog if you can't pick up after it. Angry

It's disgusting.

I own a dog and I always pick up after him. We buy cheap nappy sacks from Sainsbury's and put a handful in my pocket every time we leave the house with him. It's really not hard

Footpaths are disgusting round here.

If my dog's poo on marshland on private property that is used only by a few dog walkers, do I need to wade into the middle of the marsh to pick it up?

Just checking.

What I really hate is when they go to the bother of bagging it, and then leave the poo filled bag in the middle of the pavement.

Because they are lazy, selfish bastards that's why.

Phone environmental health and report it. Today.

Keep reporting to the council. We had a real problem with one dog owner who used to walk down our street every morning bellowing (and I mean really bellowing) at her dogs to follow her to the park. She let them crap everywhere, right on our house steps, and my neighbour just reported her every single time. She got told she'd be prosecuted, and the housing association evicted her for this and other nuisances before very long.

It seems to be a huge issue on school runs. I have a dog and wouldn't dream of leaving his shit on a pavement.

Although I am lucky in that he only goes on grass. I have nappy sacks in the pocket of every coat I own and I also pick up after other dogs if I think its necessary.

The kids at my sons school came up with a poem that was stuck up everywhere and it seemed to work. I think they now need to come up with another one.

We had a syringe one morning. I didn't see it but a friend told me. Funnily enough, that was they day the rubbish was actually picked up! I had stomped off on the school run snapping pics on my phone to email to the council too!

Think your title should read why cant "some" people pick up after their dogs? I hate dog poo and live in a village which is terrible for this. My husband came home one day after walking our dog and said he had not been able to pick up as "too runny" Hmm I got in the car with two milk bottles of hot soapy water and went and cleared it. To be fair hes normally very good. Just back from a weekend away and found dog crap on our front lawn! its very annoying but there are some responsible people who always do clear it up,.

I totally agree. The problem is that the majority of dog owners are responsible and already do this. The people who do it will probably keep doing it until they get caught. It's really hard to catch them.

It's this minority of dog owners giving the rest a bad name and yet since they see no problem with their dog shitting everywhere, they are unlikely to stop without a deterrent.

There are heavy fines where I live but it's impossible to impose on dog walkers who go out at night and don't bother to pick up. I wish there was a system by which these people can get caught and be afraid of getting caught.

It's a problem all over the country and lots of councillors say it's the number one issue with most residents.

There MUST be way of making people too scared NOT to pick it up.

I'd love to know the answer.

We used to live right next to dunes which were a common walking place leading to a beack walk. We had to move shortly after ds was born as it was plagued with dog poo which would alos end up on our drive and path. The thought of him crawling an toddling about outside in the circumstance was too much.

Frontpaw · 04/12/2012 12:04

Of course, it's not all dog owners/walkers!

It's not just you, now it's dark early the pushchair wheels keep getting covered, and some inconsiderate arse lets their dog pop at the top of our drive and doesn't pick up drives me insane.

If I made the rules I would punish offenders by smearing the poo all over their favourite jumper.

It drives me up the wall, i am a dog owner and do pick up after my dogs i have poo bags in every coat and in both the buggies (often pushing one whilst dogwalking) even my 4 year old knows about picking up he calls it poo patrol. If you do catch someone not picking up like i have (next to the local playground!) tell them you will report them, a lady in my old village got made an example of for not picking up and was fined £750:)...
