AIBU?

to keep these boots?

I think I probably am, but wanted to be persuaded otherwise...!

I ordered a pair of boots from Amazon on Sat, and joined the Prime thing to get them delivered on Mon (as it was the only day I could guarantee being in all day) I waited all day and they never appeared...I spoke to someone that evening who had no explanation and didn't seem bothered, but eventually told me they'd tried to deliver but I'd been out. I checked on the tracking system (which had been blank all day) which suddenly said they'd tried to deliver at 1pm and had left a calling card. I was standing at my front door from 12.50 to 1.10 talking to someone, so this was impossible!
No real apology but they guaranteed the boots would be delivered on Tues, and could be left with a neighbour as I was at work. Cue another day of boots not coming. Spoke to them again Tues evening - they eventually apologised (Amazon tracking said boots had been delivered, but delivery system's said they were still in depot from Monday waiting for me to contact them via calling card...Confused) and said they would send out a new pair Express on Wed so I would have them by lunchtime. Got an email 2 hours later saying there were none left in stock so they would refund me (though when I looked on Amazon I could still click to buy a new pair!)

I gave up...and then this afternoon they were sitting on my doorstep waiting for me! Refund has come through from Amazon now - their refund email did say at the very bottom that if boots did end up coming to make sure I sent them back, or contacted them so they could take the payment again.....I can't just keep the boots and keep quiet can I? Blush Not entirely sure I love them enough to pay the extortionate amount they cost - but part of me also wonders if it will be as much of a huge hassle to return them as it was to get them...

Tell me I'm BU to consider keeping them and keeping quiet...

Hmm. So you'll get boots for free? I don't think my conscience would let me do that. Even if you did, I don't think you'll be found out, but it is stealing.

Just let them know via email, they have finally made it to you after lots of stress and inconvenience, and ask how much they would like to be reimbursed.

with any luck they will not ask for the full amount.

While they faffed you around keeping the boots would be stealing especially as they advised you that if they turned up to send them back.

If you still wanted the boots I would be tempted to ask that they charge you less than the original price and did not charge you p&p so effectively discounting by way of apology for the issues you have faced.

Keep the fecking boots. You didn't sign for them. Some delivery wanker left them on your doorstep and someone stole them. End of.

I'd probably send them back but not before I'd asked for some sort of compensation for waiting in all day & them lying by sayig they'd tried to deliver them when they hadn't.

I had a similar issue and kept the item except my stuff did get delivered when df was here (it was a book for dh). He put it on top of the kitchen cupboard and made mental note to tell me. I realised a week later it hadn't come so emailed. Got another sent out. Gave it to dh for Christmas. Feb was up on counters looking in top of kitchen cupboard for stashed sweeties. Found box thought I hasn't gave it to dh. Gave it to dh. Realised we had two but couldn't work it out. Mentioned to dad who gasped and put his hand over his mouth.

Didn't dare report to amazon as thought it might look incredibly dodgy seen as I'd had it for three months!

You would be very unreasonable to steal the boots.

Amazon actually have 6 years to pursue payment. Though if you didn't sign, then there is no proof of delivery.

Hmmm. They did not seem to be budging on any kind of compensation, or discount (which I tried when I thought the boots had been re-ordered for me) - I made it clear that I was v disappointed, they were unreliable, I'd stayed in all day etc etc, but they had no interest in reducing the full amount then.
Think I am going to have the send them back....I'm sure they wouldn't know, as the case was closed as far as they were concerned (they didn't seem concerned about where the boots had got to when they were 'lost') but it doesn't reduce the 'stealing'ness of it does it? Blush

Maybe they will tell me not to bother sending them back....[hopeful]!

Thanks for replies :)

Does anyone know if I can demand that that they actually collect it from me (ie courier) rather than me having to take it to a post office? Or can they dictate how I get it returned?

God I'd keep them and I wouldn't feel in the slightest bit bad about doing it!

The only thing about demanding a courier pick them up is that you will have to wait in for the courier to arrive (or not!). Do you like the boots? Would you have kept them if they hadn't cocked up the delivery? If you like them and want to keep them then you do need to pay for them.

They will know.

My MIL got a DVD set in the same way. It was a Christmas present, and amazon failed to deliver twice before apologising and refunding. Then it turned up on the doorstep. She tried to call twice but couldn't get through, so she forgot about it.

They emailed her 9 months later saying they would take the money. She didn't remember getting it so told them that, v they sent reports from the co showing the parcel being signed out. Nothing proving delivery, but they were quite cocky. She did enquire about a refund but was told it was too late.

She did pay but it was so stressful, and only over £15. I wouldn't risk it.

Keep them.

Consider it compensation for their crap service.

The exact same thing happened to me with Barratts. I kept them.

They never followed it up. £150 boots I still wear 7 years later!

That happened to me with a mobile phone worth £90.00 with Amazon.
When it finally turned up, I called to let them know.
I couldn't live with the worry of them finding out.

Obviously you send Amazon an e-mail saying they have been dispatched. Wait a couple of days & send another one saying that the courier tried to deliver them at 1.00pm but there was no-one in.
Would they care to ring you to arrange another delivery time?
;-)

I'd keep them tbh. Luckily it was you who found them and not the local toe rag then you would of had no clue they were delivered and what if amazon pursued you for the money then?

What would you get for them on Ebay?

Honestly? I'd keep them almost without a second thought.

i would take it as karma.. an early xmas pressie. they have no proof that they were delivered or that someone could have taken them before you got home and you would be none the wiser !

Yes you can insist they arrange a courier at your convenience. After researching the legalities myself of a similar situation (the company sent my order out twice) I e-mailed the company and told them when the parcel would be available for collection and they arranged it. Zero hassle for me.

Thanks fedup - so maybe if I insist they send a courier they will decide not to bother...? clutching at straws

I do like them, but they are ever so slightly too big - if I hadn't had all this faff and it had all gone through normally, i'd probably have swapped them for the size below - they are still wearable though (but only if free!)
