AIBU?

To wonder what the fuss is about with hotel chocolat?

I've been given a large box, obviously this is a rather fantastic present from a work colleague and very fancy/ pretty. I can't help thinking though secretly that the taste isn't all that. Am I the only one? Or am I uncultured and used to discount Thorntons as the ultimate treat?

You are not wrong. I would much rather have a box of Thorntons.

You are really.
Hotel chocolat is very good. There is better chocolate around but it isn't Thorntons (which even my kids won't eat because it is too sickly!)

I prefer thorntons.

I'm not saying Thorntons is 'wow', but I've never delved much into fancy chocolate. I have had though little boxes of chocolates brought back from France or belgium that were heaven... these don't compare.

I think they are shockingly expensive. I bought some for a friend as part of a birthday gift and when I asked what she thought of them - not much - was the answer! Well, I did ask.
DDs boyfriend bought her some recently and I thought I'd have an opportunity to sample them but they disappeared into her bedroom never to be seen again. So I'm destined to never to be able to answer your question.

Well they don't compare to Belgian chocolates or anything you can pick up in a French village - I guess the fuss is hype and because you can buy them at places like railway stations, and the packaging is fancy. I'm a chocolate fan, but I find them a bit sickly and sweet, and otherwise tasteless.

Thorntons has gone downhill with cheap low grade cocoa content in their chocolate and its pumped up with fats making it greasier. HC cocoa content an quality is miles better. I've also had far better French supermarket own brand than current Thorntons (which I used to love).

YABU, it's lovely. I got a box of tasting batons for my birthday last year, which count among done of the nicest things I've ever put in my mouth (also a contender - sea salt chilli duck at Oscars of Cardiff, which is fucking awesome).

They are lovely! Thortons are horrid and now made of cheap crap ingredients.

Hate Thorntons, gritty, cheap stuff.
Hotel Chocolat are divine. Chuck 'em this way, please!

YANBU. I find them over=sweet and not v exciting - look lovely though.

The best chocolate in the world ever, is Lindt sea salt. They now do caramel sea salt too, which is also v good.

Thorntons are a bit nasty.

Hotel Chocolat is lovely, but overpriced.

My favourite brand is Neuhaus. Quite difficult but not impossible to find here. But I used to live in Belgium and became a bit addicted.

Lidl do the most amazing chocolate IMO

Hotel Chocolate are waxy and disgusting. They have to have all those flavours to cover up the cheap chocolate they use.

YANBU. I think they are overpriced and - at least the ones I have tried through being given as gifts - nothing to write home about at all. I get more pleasure from a bar of Dairy Milk or peppermint Aero TBH.
