to think if i want to lose more weight it doesn't mean i have an eating disorder?

I have lost 3 stone.

I did this over a year and 2 months so not too quickly imo.

I would now like to lose another 10 lbs but have been told by my son that i am anorexic,i am not,i just need to get some more weight off then i think i will be happy.

Anorexia is a bit more complicated than just being on the skinny side, and we can't even judge that unless we know your height, weight and general eating habits.

vodkaanddietirnbru Thu 22-Nov-12 18:39:57

are you still in the overweight category still? Will you really be happy, or will you keep wanting to get a little bit extra off?

WorraLiberty Thu 22-Nov-12 18:40:00

I suppose it depends on what weight you are now, your height, frame and BMI etc.

Why does your son think this?

Congrats on the loss so far.

legohouse Thu 22-Nov-12 18:41:53

thanks Worra, i am 5 foot 2 and 8 stone 6

I lost loads of weight (slowly and sensibly) but still had 2 stone to lose and people were telling me I was going to far, was going to make myself ill etc but clinically I still had weight to lose

I think people get so used to seeing you a certain size that when you lose weight they think you have gone too far

as long as you are not below the right weight for your height, carry on as you are and well done on your weight loss smile

One woman I used to work with tried to make out I had an eating disorder. It really started to get on my nerves.

In our group of friends, one did lose weight quite quickly, she got down to just under 9 stone and she's around 5 ft 5. But its all the group of friends would talk about ... and omg it got to be so boring.

You are not losing weight too fast, but I would maybe make time for a nurses appointment first to see if you are underweight.

But seriously congrats on the weightless.

WorraLiberty Thu 22-Nov-12 18:46:02

Are you sure you want to lose another 10lbs then?

Perhaps you need to tone up rather than lose any more?

I'm 5ft 3" and tend to hover around the 8st 3lb mark

But why does he think anorexia?

Teabagtights Thu 22-Nov-12 18:46:46

Im 5ft 2 and if I weighed 8stone 6lb Id look really rough.

My ideal weight is 9stone making me a size 8 to 10.

Im sorry but I dont believe it would be healthy for you to lose another 10lb you would be able to see your ribs and look anorexic.

Be proud of what you have achieved, you have done brilliantly.

thanks,my son is lovely,he came round today between jobs (gas man) and saw what i had in my fridge,i did tell him i wanted to crack on and lose another 10 pounds, that's when he said i am anorexic (in a half jokey way)

I do like the challenge of losing weight i must admit but i do not feel that i have a problem.

Anskabel Thu 22-Nov-12 18:46:58

Ten years ago I weighed around 8 stone at 5ft 5, looked healthy and was healthy. Now I'm in my 30s and my metabolism's changed I'm lucky if I can stay below 11st without feeling like I'm starving myself. How old are you? In my case that's made a huge difference to my definition of a realistic weight goal.

vodkaanddietirnbru Thu 22-Nov-12 18:47:20

The height and weight you gave gives a BMI of 21.57 which is right in the middle of the healthy weight area.

tzella Thu 22-Nov-12 18:49:19

How old is your son? Does he know what the hell he is talking about?

I'm (slightly) guilty of thinking my friend had lost too much weight. His collarbones were sticking out and it was such a massive change that I was starting to worry. But he compared height/weight with a few other people and he was fine smile

legohouse Thu 22-Nov-12 18:49:19

i am 40 in January

legohouse Thu 22-Nov-12 18:50:47

my son is nearly 20.he is protective of me and is probably just looking out for me i guess?

tzella Thu 22-Nov-12 18:50:53

Sorry, took me so long to type you've said he's not a over-dramatic teen :D And also that he was clearly joking hmm

A stealthboast!

Teabagtights Thu 22-Nov-12 18:50:58

I could have been 7stone when I was 18, but at 38 when I got down to 8st 7lb I looked really old and haggard around my neck.

Tone up, go to the gym, remember too that muscle weighs more than fat.

It would really depend on your bone size, what size frame are you? Im a medium frame.

FredFredGeorge Thu 22-Nov-12 18:51:21

It depends on your frame, but another 10lbs off at your height would be quite on the low side - but if you're a small ectomorph without much muscle mass then it's perfectly possible to be a good weight.

So we can't know how healthy the weight is really, do others feel the same as your son?

Teabagtights Thu 22-Nov-12 18:52:15

More to the point what is your dress size? Smaller than an 8 to 10 looks ridiculous on any frame.

legohouse Thu 22-Nov-12 18:52:28

I would like to be at the bottom end of my bmi, this is just my personal preference.

Teabagtights Thu 22-Nov-12 18:53:24

Its not about weight, its about what you LOOK like.

AdoraJingleBells Thu 22-Nov-12 18:54:01

Congrats on your weight loss so far.

If it's any help I am 5 3 and 8.5 stone is still a bit heavy for me. I would advise seeing your GP or nurse to make sure of what you could weigh while still being healthy.

Also, because I am so cynical - when did your DS qualify in psychology and how long has he been working with eating disorders?wink

legohouse Thu 22-Nov-12 18:57:39

ha ha,my son means well,i have no doubts about that.

i am a size 8,i am not boasting,just wanted re-assurance really i guess

legohouse Thu 22-Nov-12 19:01:51

teabag..that is just how i see it,i know i will feel better with some more weight off.

OldLadyKnowsNothing Thu 22-Nov-12 19:04:37

If you're already a size 8 at 5'2, and your BMI is healthy, I think losing a further 10lb might be too much. Maybe 5lb?
