To ask you to try to remember a shampoo from the 80s/90s

I realise this is tenuous and doesn't really belong on this thread but posting here for extra traffic.

There is a 300+ posts thread running on Chat at the moment in which the OP is asking us to remember the name/brand/variety of a shampoo that was sold in late 80s/early 90's.

We think it was Sunsilk/VO5, that kind of brand. It was a see through bottle and the shampoo was lilac/purple. The whole pont of the shampoo was that it made your hair smell great and have a lasting fragrance. The ads that ran in Just 17/ Jackie magazine for it showed a boy sniffing a girl's hair at a party. I seem to remember them being black and white line drawing/cartoon type ads, not colour photographic. Same sort of style as the ads used to be for Compound W, if that means anything to you.

So who has got a secret stash of Just 17's from that period and could have a whizz through.

Please put us out of our misery someone. What was it called?!!!

Only shampoo I can remember from that time was Vosene! Grin (I know that's not the one you're talking about)

From googling I have found a pink shampoo called "Gee your hair smells terrific" but that sounds too American to me!

Wan't it Sunsilk something ~ indicating it had long lasting scent?

Dimensions?

It sounds like herbel essence to me but not sure if that was around then. Will keep thinking

I remember the Wash'n'Go adverts where the woman would say "I just wash n go" whilst shaking her head like a lunatic.

Thanks for googling but the problem is it doesn't seem to be anywhere on the web, very odd. Lots of us remember this product though. It wasn't an American product, more like a special variety of a high street one available in the UK.

Was it Harmony, or did they only do hairspray? Only other brand I can think of is Silverkrin, and there was that group if shampoos that came in clear bottles, they did a henna one for dark hair and a yellow one for blonde hair, I can't remember the name though. I wonder if they did a fragrant one?

Finesse? Or Alberto Balsam?

It wasn't Flex was it? I used to love the smell of that.

I remember Salon Selectives - don't know if it maybe that?

Ahhh I used to love the Salon Selectives adverts. I thought it was so exciting being able to mix and match shampoos and conditioners. In my defence, I think I was about 8 when those adverts were on!

Someone on the EBay forum mentioned L'envie shampoo. They said it came in different scents and the point of it was to make your hair smell nice, but I can't find any images of it on google, so maybe it's not spelt right or something.

There's some information about it here

Thanks - wasn't L'envie, Salon Selects, Flex, Finesse. Possibly a VO5 variant - would be so great if someone could find the ad in an old magazine. The shampoo was marketed solely on the basis that it would make your hair smell perfumed for a long time.

Was it the one with a scratch and sniff advert? "Rub her hair to release the fragrance". That used to appear in Blue Jeans, Patches and Jackie in the 80s. Can't bloody remember what the shampoo was, but will be annoying me now!

HoobleDooble, I don't remember the scratch 'n sniff ads, but you might be on to something ...

I still think it was a variant of SUNSILK.

In a pink bottle.

Morgansports · 06/11/2012 15:48

Thanks Fem, most of us who remember it agree it was a clear bottle full of lilac/purple coloured gel like shampoo. Possibly had the word Parfum or something similar in the name. Wish we could find the ad!

Yes, and marketed as being magical so stars or something on the bottle. I knew I'd regret throwing out those J17 magazines!

It wasn't Dimension.

It wasn't pink, it was more of a light purple.

God It's driving me mad!

I've even emailed Proctor and Gamble (i know!) and they have answered saying they have never heard of it. But we can't all be imagining it can we?!
