to hate the phrase "nudie rudie"?

Okay, this is utterly trivial. But here goes anyway.

If my MIL - who is lovely - ever encounters my DSs (who are 2 and 4) naked - running about after a bath, getting ready for bed, whatever - she always goes "Oooh, nudie rudie!" I've heard her say it about her DGDs too. She literally says it EVERY TIME she encounters an unclothed child.

I just hate it. I'm fairly relaxed about nakedness, and my DSs don't, yet, think that naked = rude. I'd like to preserve that for a wee bit longer. I can't seem to find a way to ask her not to say it to my DCs without sounding mean or disrespecful. So I'll just grumble on here...

Oh dear, mine are scarred for life then.
Naked kids are always nudey rudeys in our house!
As are anything that has been peeled....
DD will only eat nudey rudey apples, and she's partial to nudey rudey cucumber too.
shock

It's nudie-nude in our house, usually accompanied by a dance of joy for our dd.

OMG I called my mate's little girl Crazy Maisey this morning shock

I wonder if her mum's an MNetter?

Keep an eye out for a thread entitled "AIBU to think my mate shouldn't be inferring my daughter has a mental health problem?"

I am dreading being a MIL. I am going to get it all wrong.

My mil used to say it's 'disgusting' which I do think us awful. I just can't get worked up about nudie rudie.

pictish Wed 03-Oct-12 17:34:19

My ds2 is Rudi - so he really IS a nudey Rudi! grin

Anyway - OP - don't worry about it. It doesn't matter at all.

peeriebear Wed 03-Oct-12 17:35:36

Mine do the 'nudie dance' which involves wiggling ones bum in time while singing "nudie nudie nuuuudie, nudie nudie nuuuudie..."

squoosh Wed 03-Oct-12 17:38:33

Nudie Rudie is fine when referring to a child but I have heard with mine very own ears an adult refer to their own nudity as Nudie Rudie.

My toes still haven't uncurled.

InvisibleHotPinkWeasel Wed 03-Oct-12 17:42:58

My Mil used rudie nudie and now do do I. I like it.
As for embarrass them, nope only encouraged the little buggers more grin

halcyondays Wed 03-Oct-12 17:43:52

Never heard it before. I doubt it will affect them that much.

timeforathink Wed 03-Oct-12 17:51:17

TheCountessOlenska Wed 03-Oct-12 17:54:58

I don't like "sexy" when applied to a child but we all say "nudie rudie" in this house!

BarredfromhavingStella Wed 03-Oct-12 17:57:05

Rudey Dudey in this house too along with bare bears, sure they will both be scarred for life hmm

Pandemoniaa Wed 03-Oct-12 17:58:49

especially when chasing little man to pinch his peachy bum

Now that does conjure up a picture of Benny Hill...

<apologises for irrational hatred of expression "little man">

StellaNova Wed 03-Oct-12 18:00:13

I call them nude-igans

PickledFanjoCat Wed 03-Oct-12 18:01:26

Ooh! I say who's a rudie nudie to ds.

Op - overthinkage!

DesperatelySeekingPomBears Wed 03-Oct-12 18:05:50

Naaaaaaked baby in our house. Or nuddy-pants.

We say bare bummed bandits!

After the bath, we play a game called 'naked babies all over the place', it's very complicated, you have to run around naked whilst shouting the aforementioned title.

Nudie rudie wouldn't bother me, sexy does though. 4 people I have had to tell to stop calling my children that. They had the cheek to be all offended.

sudaname Wed 03-Oct-12 18:17:37

My DHs DGDs DSF (work that one out) came to pick her up (aged 8) at our house once and she was lying on the floor when he came in putting her wellies on. They started to play fight and giggle and banter etc (she was stalling basically) and she called him a silly name and he said 'come on sexy and you know it, get up lets go'.

DH and l were both confused shock and DH more than a little angry

We had the radio on in the car a few days later and a song with the lyrics 'sexy and you know it' came on and DGD obviously really liked it and was singing along at top of her voice.

l just really think the word sexy isnt such a huge deal with young people today.

But l would much rather he had called her 'nudie, rudie' all the same.

sudaname Wed 03-Oct-12 18:19:12

Not that she was nude at the time you understand but you know what l mean.

WhoremoaneeGrainger Wed 03-Oct-12 18:19:56

Nudie Rudie in my house too. And dd (10) still shrieks it as she runs past her dad if she has showered and forgotten her pj's (tho these days she has a towel wrapped around her, i must admit).

IceBergJam Wed 03-Oct-12 18:20:44

We say rudie trudie. Sorry if thats your name!

"rudie toodie" here. I haven't come across many people scared for life by parents/grandparents comments about the nakedness

puddock Wed 03-Oct-12 22:10:34

Wow, seems like everyone else loves it, I'm clearly BU. I will at least hold my hands up to overthinkage grin. I never imagined my kids would be scarred hmm, or turned into crazed streakers by it, it just makes me cringe.
Lots of the versions some of you have mentioned sound joyful and fab - naked babies all over the place, nudie-nude dances - it's the "rude" bit that gets me perhaps. She doesn't say it in a comical giggly way, she says it like she's really embarrassed and they should be too. But yes, I'm sure BFLIWT is right and it won't affect their views of their bodies, I probably pick up on it way more than they do.

Yuck at 'sexy'.
