When buying three hot drinks this afternoon. She's not wrong. Grin

I went in to be intentionally ripped off as DS1 had had his brace tightened and wanted a passion fruit and mango smoothie, and I am a soft touch. Wink

But there's always a queue so I must be missing something?

I don't get it either.

All hot drinks taste better at home/a mate's house anyway....!

:)

They were in glass mugs on saucers so that might be why they were expensive-posh!

But I don't think the ingredients are very posh are they?

Yabu - the prices are on a big board on the wall so you can see them before you order! Drink a nice cup of tea from a cafe instead :)

One girl serving this afternoon. Hmm

The Costa in question is in an out of town Tesco so no choice of coffee/tea emporiums.

I like Costa coffee, its nicest out of all the chains I think. And their chocolate tiffin is divine.

I quite like Costa too in comparison to most of the others. Their Chai Latte is lovely and even at the airport they dont inflate their costs too much.

A lady did this in Starbucks the other day - she said she always gets such and such drink, why does it now cost ££? And complained it was expensive.

They have raised their prices. I was in the same boat as the lady - I had brought in my own cup, so I should have gotten a 25p discount. I was handed 10p!!! Guess they are less concerned about being green :(

The drinks really are such a rip-off - I have spent sooo much money on them over the years. They are easy to make yourself at home, so I started doing this. You can download coffee recipe books online (chain specific if you want).

You should all come to my very reasonably priced coffee shop (when it opens next month) Grin

YADNBU I used to want to shout that too when I was serving the customers and ringing up the order on the till. In the year i was there it never failed to astound me how much people would spend on a couple of coffees and a slice of cake... and the cake wasn't even that nice (trust me I know my cake!)

I did make an awesome hot chocolate that was worth every penny (although that may have had something to do with my decision to increase the chocolate to milk ratio Wink)

She embarrassed herself, no? The prices are transparent, however inflated they might be considered. If you don't want to pay the prices... welll you needn't.

I don't see why somebody should get a clap for presumably paying for something they couldn't afford/didn't want to buy?

My mother does this sort of thing, whinges on about prices. I've said for her to stop it or I'll leave her in shops to complain to herself. I can't stand it.

there is a lovely independant cafe in my nearest town (several in fact) that do normal tea (hate starbucks tea) and nice things like boiled eggs and granary toast. In none of them can you easily get even one buggy Sad so I am exiled to the vastness of Costa or Nero's just because they have space (and no, its not a huge pram, just a buggy but the cafes are small)

Went to Ikea this morning and shouted 'HOW MUCH??' when the lady at the till said '£1 please', for a coffee and a small but perfectly nice danish pastry. Costa is def overpriced, but you it before you go in...

She met 2 friends. She had possibly never been there before, and probably didn't look at the price board as she was buying 3 fairly ordinary coffees.

I do it quite a lot. I am appalled by the rideeeculous price of things I don't buy v often, like coffee.

Coffee, IMVHO is a bloody racket. The varieties, the snobbery, the queuing. I don't get it.

Costa and Starbucks are particularly expensive, but I prefer Costa to Starbucks.

I have to say I think Costa do the best lattes by far, closely followed, strangely enough, by the soft play centre I take DS to! So many places do lattes that are basically just cappuccinos without the chocolate sprinkles. That's not a latte! They are expensive but to be fair their regular lattes are huge and their lemon cake is fucking gorgeous.

Jamie - it's the same thing as a bar really. You could drink at home but there is something nice about going to a good pub, same for a coffee shop. And coffee is addictive.
