AIBU?

To think some people on here are trolled far too easily

I know it's because people care and want to help, but when the O.P is so clearly spinning a line and people are still being sucked in, I do wonder why.

Cos they aren't life bitten cynical wagons like you and I?

More like because mnhq don't let us troll hunt! Even when it's obvious.

I'm a champion troll spotter, me, and I'll call it when I see it

Someone mentioned the poo troll in a thread I was reading, I missed that one. SadEnvy

They are. It makes you want to bite your knuckles in frustration. Hq would prefer that people are trolled than anyone to show the slightest cynicism, however.

There does seem to be less troll-hunting lately and it don't think it's turned out to be for the benefit of the site.

All I will say is, in a thread, watch out for the O.P avoiding answering questions which ask for more definite facts. (BlackBerry - I saw this happen to you recently)

I think that some people play along for the drama. It takes all sorts.

A serious answer-soem people have lived through situations eg DV, relationship breakdown, bullying at work -which Sounded and felt a bit weird or crazy at the time. So they are very sympathetic to others who claim to be going through the same thing.

Yes goth I suspected troll. Thing is with trolls, usually someone trips them up and the more seasoned mnetters pick up on it. Then questions are asked and the 'believers' report the thread and hq get involved.

Ah the poo troll.

Actually, as I've said before, I once shouted 'poo troll' all over a thread that turned out to be from a legitmate poster with a spectacularly graphic bum problem!

I felt awful. So I guess that's reason enough to be careful. I was so sure as well...

I can't bear to watch people pour their hearts out and lay their lives bare for what is obviously a troll. I see it as them being abused again.

Which thread was started by a troll?

Report
Proudnscary · 11/09/2012 16:27

Katie - I never call troll on the relationships board because a) you just never know b) it can upset and offend people who have been through similar and c) it's a less aggressively adversarial robust board than AIBU

Not a poo troll, an uber child drama troll.

Oh, think I know the one you mean, sounded suss from the start.

Because as fanciful as some of the scenarios sound, there are people who have had multiple problems at once and their lives have pretty much imploded.

The ones that baffle me more are where the OP is clearly on a wind-up, e.g. taking a strong position on something or blatantly shit-stirring (SAHM/WOHM, breastfeeding etc) and then it runs for like 600 posts. I think in that case the responders keep it going because it gives them a chance to beat their own particular drum

Yy lisaro, I feel the same

OTOh I love the ridiculous but amusing trolls eg hamster, pirate sex

The " please send me money or my kids will starve " " I'm abut to kill myself right now " ones make me want to reach down the computer and slap them. It's always the other single parenst living in the breadline that get conned out of money Angry

I'm shit at spotting trolls. I'm not a new poster, I've been here for over 3 years, but I'm still no good at spotting trolls. Any pointers?

I might start a thread. AIBU to think that breastfeeding is rubbish and strapping your baby into their pram is a waste of time?

Oh, and I will park in an ambulance bay if I want because I HAVE A BABY.

There was one incredibly emotive thread in relationships recently which I had the strong feeling was a troll. I didn't say anything, or even post on it, but I did report it. It ran and ran and ran (in various forms) and nobody seemed to have the slightest suspicion of the OP. What didn't ring true was that the OP posted very scant information and background, while the posters were pouring their hearts and souls out about their own very traumatic experiences.

I'm probably just horribly cynical though. Blush

A Kiss - shortage of verifiable facts is a big clue.

Like in recent troll thread, someone (I think it was BlackBerry) said "If you've been to a contact centre SS/Cafcass must been involved, what did they say? No answer to this from O.P.

Financial trolls will have never visited C.A.B and even on long running begging threads, will side-step the issue.
