To think Julie Goodyear is a bit reverse homophobic?

Ok that a terrible description and it's celeb bb reference two things I should be shot for but!...

She keeps saying to Julian "I always get on better with the gays" and "I need a bit of camp". Repetitively.

It just feels like him being gay is his defining feature and it's like he's her toy in a weird way? Kind of like a good old boy stating "I like an Indian or two around such funny little chaps what what!"

Am I making any sense or being totally U?!

I know exactly what you mean! It's like she is trying really hard to not appear homophobic. She makes it sound like every gay man is identical.

She seems to me to have difficulty with women of her own age group...Coleen an example. She seems ok with younger women who she can 'mother' but seems to feel threatened by older women. She reacted badly to the glam Jasmine's mum.

Straight men of her age are not in the house,so a gay man of her age(ish) is safety

Does she say "with the gays?" Grin

She is very camp herself and probably has a big gay following.

Nothing wrong with CBB at all. I am sure you watch TOWIE.

There is a term for women like that. Denise welch also fits the mould.

Julie is 70 and Collen is 47, hardly the same generation!

It is 'homophilia' i wrote some essays about it along with 'negrophilia' when i was studying fetishism at uni. It can be a form of inverted homophobia, as in, it still makes the group 'other'. And can be just as offensive and differentiating.

Like 'good' stereotypes becoming pervasive and therefore restrictive. (good with colours, great grooming, highly sexual etc). It is more subtle but can be insidious.

If I was a gay man being pestered by fag hags would piss me off but some men do seem to like it.

I always suspect they're taking the piss though.

I don't know how much gay men welcome shrieking hen parties getting in the way when they're at the serious business of trying to pull.

I know they are ages apart...but Coleen is the nearest to her in maturity..and she steers clear and goes to the females 50 years her junior. She didn't like Jasmine's mum...but then I didn't like Jasmine's mum Grin

I also think that the gay men who make a big fuss of the likes of Goodyear and Cilla Black don't have a very healthy picture of women either.

To be reverse homophobic she would need to start saying straight men are unnatural , maybe beat a few up and deny them some human rights. Yabu

spuddy the idea that all gay men are good with grooming is a joke, if it wasn't so confining.

Anyone would think there were no fat, hairy, badly-dressed gay men in the world who have other things to think about besides being pretty. Or straight men like that. Or women for that matter. Grin

But julian has made a life out of camp. (not confusing camp with gay)

Yes limited it is very unhealthy, just like the stereotype of women some gay men can have (i have been told having a vagina is disgusting and like having an open wound etc). I particularly hate drag queens and find them really offensive to women.

caerlaverlock I don't know I'd call it reverse homophobia but it is grossly insulting to define a group of people by a characteristic you've bestowed on them even if it seems to be a positive characteristic.

Bit like saying all black people are good at dancing and all women are good with children.

Spuddybean · 27/08/2012 13:17

as i said it isn't called reverse homophobia it is called homophilia like francophilia. Loving a stereotype of a group or place.

I also think that the gay men who make a big fuss of the likes of Goodyear and Cilla Black don't have a very healthy picture of women either.

Paul Ogrady is BFFs with Cila Black christopher Biggens is friends with every celeb woman by the looks of it but his BFF is Joan collins I dont think they have a skewed view of women at all,
I have/had gay friends and I some the the boys I hung about with at school are gay I dunno maybe Im like Julie and like the gays Grin

I think we have the same view of drag queens spuddy.

I once listened in horror to a conversation between an older man who was clearly gay but not out listening to his younger and very pissed colleague talking about his wife who'd recently had a baby.

The younger man wasn't saying anything particularly bad, just thoughtless and disloyal - he was talking about her being very tired, pre-occupied with their baby so not interested in sex and having leaky, sore breasts, a flabby stomach and a bashed up fanny.

That does sound bad btw but to be fair, he was pissed and it was being teased out of him. A nice man, straight or gay, would have said he was sure she'd feel better and told his colleague to stop whingeing.

Instead this man said with disgust: 'women. They can never get themselves clean.'

I'm sure I fulfilled many of his prejudices about women by eavesdropping.

Discriminating against anyone who is not homosexual, on the basis of sexuality is heterophobic. And yes it does happen, it just doesn't make for very interesting headlines.

Report
Spuddybean · 27/08/2012 13:29

yes limited that's exactly the kind of Shock things which people say when they don't understand other groups which 'philias' encourage as much as 'phobias'

Like straight people talking about gay sex too. That can also be particularly bizarre.
