I have recently converted, and was interested in meeting other Muslim women to talk to as I don't have any Muslim friends.

Converted from what?

Why is this in Aibu?

would it not be better to try a muslim forum?
I am sure muslims post here but this is not a religious forum and i have no clue what colour posters are.

I converted from being Christian. Did I post this in the wrong place? I'm new to this site so didn't really look into where else to post it!

Maybe ask MN (report your own post) to move to the religion/philosophy/spirituality section?

Am I being unreasonable is the lively/controversial topics debate area!

Or if you are looking for real life friends maybe post on MN local for your area

I've tried looking, but can't seem to find any. Thought it would be a good idea to post on here maybe, as I have recently had a baby and also have this in common with people

At the top of the page is a tab marked local, select your local area and join. You may get luck or you might not as some of the local boards are very quiet.

Is there no where local you can go to met people? A play group or religious group if you are looking for fellow converts.

There's plenty of Muslim mums I this board I'm sure they'll turn up. I'm also Muslim.

Agree with littleducks ask to have your post moved to religion topic.

where abouts are you? if your near west london ive got a muslim mums group that does meet ups, we are on facebook so could add you in the group if you pm me

it is hard if you are in an area with not many muslims, i grew up in an area like that so i understand, but there should be some ways of meeting people if you put your rough area ill see what i can suggest for you, i know people in quite a few areas of uk and some areas do have groups for new muslims to go and learn together and get support and that kind of thing, or of course groups for all muslims not just converted people by themselves!

anyway sis masha allah, and welcome to islam and insha allah u find loads of nice friends for support. btw dont feel that u cant still be friends with other non muslim people or anything, so you dont have to get rid of all your friends from before and isolate yourself - cos isolation is not good for anyone

Thanks

There's a group on Facebook called Muslim Mums which is good for advice and support. Also try Solace which is a support group for new Muslim women.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions, I have posted on the religion board. I will also try the Muslim Mums page on Facebook.

Firwla - I live in Manchester, and do know of an area with a Muslim community. I do feel overwhelmed, and am quite a shy person, so meeting new people in groups can be quite scary for me! I do have a few British friends, but would like to meet women who understand the lifestyle and religion of a Muslim.

take a college course etc in the area and you might find local mums.

i am sure you will meet people here. i'm going to look for your other thread and ask you what made you convert. :)

I think there is a new muslims group in the mosque in didsbury in manchester? apparently its a really nice group, an italian sis i know used to live there and was involved in that, she has moved away now but I will ask her for details and pm u, it sounds like the community in manchester is quite nice and loads of converts from all different backgrounds so im sure u will meet lovely people.

Oh, I didn't know that. I've never been to Didsbury, but it would be nice if you could find out more :-)

The area where I live is away from any Muslim communities, so I don't know much about people in the area, etc.

Thanks for your help, it really is appreciated.

I am no doubt going to word this badly, but why do you not just want to meet other mums, why are you specifically looking to meet muslim mums only?

You are a english speaking woman, why does it matter what religion other mums are?

From the OP, "as I don't have any Muslim friends."

It's not unreasonable to want to meet people to believe or like the same things as you.

suju2228 · 16/08/2012 16:11

I'm sorry, I didn't want to come across badly. The friends I do have are all non-muslim, so I wanted to look to meet muslim women, who I could speak to if I had questions, or wanted to speak about religion, etc. It's difficult at the moment because the friends I do have can't relate to me on that side of things.

I was going to say the same as Squeaky.

But, thinking about it I can see that you will need new Muslim friends, like you say to answer questions about your new religion. I'm sure you knew a lot about it before you decided to convert but there will always be questions I'm sure.

Yes, this is the kind of thing I was trying to say. I didn't want to sound like now I've converted I only want Muslim friends, because that isn't the case! It's just for general discussion and religion really.

Squeaky got it in one.

Hope you find what you're looking for. Not me for one, as I dislike religion especially Islam.

There are a few Muslim women on here. There a few threads I can remember that had interesting insights from them.
