Her parents have just been found guilty of her murder haven't they?

It was a dreadful, tragic situation and her parents were truly evil.

I don't get this "let's blame the teachers and the social workers" though.

Not sure what you mean? Are you saying that you are a social worker OP and feel guilty about what happened to that poor girl?

I don't know about the ins and outs of how she was failed by social workers and teachers, but I do know that murderers can be very devious and manipulative.

To be driven into drinking bleach out of the desperation of her situation is just too frightening to contemplate.

We should tighten the net so girls like Shafilea don't slip through it, but sometimes there's no accounting for the ways of persistent, violent criminals.

Bacause Shafilia isn't an isolated case, I was shocked to be honest, look st the statts,,, Its very worrying.

New legislation has been brought in recently hasn't it to try to stop this kind of thing?

RubyFakeNails · 04/08/2012 01:03

You're just using this as some anti-religion rant.

None of the major religions and I doubt any of the less popular ones for that matter, tell you to kill your child.

Social workers and teachers didn't fail her, her parents did.

ItsAPileOfBalls · 04/08/2012 01:03

I think the only legislation that could possibly work is to jail the family members responsible for these 'honour' killings for life and I mean life - they don't see the light of day as a free person for ever more Sad

You might find O.P, that demonising people's religions and cultures doesn't make them feel more comfortable about seeking outside help. I'm sure you won't let a little thing like facts get in the way of your rant though.

The new legislation is to jail parents forcing their children into arranged marriages, and they're tackling other areas of the problem as well.

It's not very much, but it's a start and sends out the right message.

Shafileas parents must have thought they could get away with it or they wouldn't have done it, and they so nearly did get away with it.

The religious side is a smoke screen for abuse! No religion justifies this behaviour. I am not religious (for the record) but no-one ever says that this type of abuse is acceptable due to their religion apart from the abusers. Race, religion, colour matter not one jot..it is the person behind it that does these things.

TheVermiciousKnid · 04/08/2012 01:17

Nobody on here is defending murder, ffs. And this has nothing to do with particular religious practices.

Time for bed ...

It's take 7 years to bring het partners to justice!???

If they were non religious murderers would it have been quicker?
