AIBU to think that the Olympic swimmers headphones are the most ridiculous thing ever? You can see them from outer space!

What are they even for? Hmm

Do you mean the padding on the ears for water pole? Jeez, its one of the roughest and violent sports ever. More cauliflower ears on WP players than on boxers.

I find it rude more than anything. Half the thing about competing at that level is the crowds and surely half the battle to winning is conquering nerves?

Ban them i say. Shows a lack of respect for the supporters.

They wear them to block out the distracting noise of the crowd. I also think it's disrespectful to the people who pay to cheer them on.

I'd love to know what Chris Hoy was listening to on his hedphones before that win.

The wheels on the bike go round and round...?

Indeed. Why block out the crowd? Isn't that the point of a home olympics? When interviewed then they would say how supportive the crowd was blah blah blah...ridiculous

I wonder if it was a bit of Queen...

"I want to ride my bicycle, i want to ride my bike...."

Presumably it helps them focus in that bit before the race when they are getting a huge adrenaline dump but can't let it out by actually doing the race. Can't see the problem - although it is great advertising for Dr Dre as the Beats headphones are being given free to athletes from the top 20 countries from Beijing.

I think it's rude and arrogant

Do they block out all the noise? Or just lessen it?
I imagine poolside or trackside is an echoing cauldron of noise
I wear earplugs to gigs, can still hear the bands, just at lower volume.

maybe the Mixtures _ Pushbike song

I think if it helps them focus and get into the zone then all the better given the pressure that is on them. I would much rather they did that and won gold than sit there using up nervous energy listening to the crowd and loose.
