AIBU?

When can I reasonably ask the neighbours to take their party inside?

Neighbours are throwing a wee party to mark the start of the Olympics. There are (late primary aged) kids in their garden, just having a good time and bouncing on their trampoline. There are also a couple of supervising adults.

Problem is that with all the windows wide open their happy noise is keeping my (much younger) kids awake, especially the 10 month old who is also really struggling with the heat.

The neighbours are lovely, we get on well.

When can I reasonably ask them to take it indoors?

I'd leave it if it's just one night

Its only one night, I imagine with the children etc, once full darkness hits they'll slowly wind it up or move inside anyway, I would just leave it.

It's the summer holidays so I think anything before 11 is probably reasonable. Plus it's kids playing and not drunken carousing with drum 'n' bass racket. I sympathise with you for the hot baby who can't sleep but really, the noise of a party is not going to make much difference. The heat is the real issue. Do you have a fan? Can you move the baby to a cooler room. DD's nursery was 30 degrees in a hot spell a few years back Shock

If it's a one off I would leave it.

Thanks.

TBH, I've lost all sense of normality when it comes to sleep.

I'm going to be up between 11 & 1 with DS1's night terrors, then DS3 will want a feed at 3ish, and DS2 will be up for the day at 5. I rely on being able to 'bank' a couple of hours from 9 till 11 so feel really disappointed.

Thanks for saving me from making a tit of myself.

really, really feel for you, but i agree best to grit your teeth and say nothing (assuming it is a one-off) - good relations with your neighbour can be very helpful, bad relations a disaster....

Its really cooled down here now, can you shut the windows and doors and just put a fan on?

Did your neighbours let you know in advance about the party? I'm a bit of a noise-phobe so if I know in advance of a party I decamp to MIL for the night, but we're lucky she's only an hours drive away... But I agree with the others, as it's a one-off you'll maybe just have to turn a blind eye! Keeping babies cool in this weather is a challenge.. My DD (5 months) room temp is 27C - I think she would be really struggling without the fan!

DS3, who's a fussy little beggar, really didn't like the fan when I tried it earlier. But his room, and DS2's, have dropped down to 26 degrees and they seem to be sleeping peacefully for now. I'm not shutting the windows - the rooms went up to 29 degrees when I tried that!

There's still a fair bit of noise, but now the boys are asleep i cam enjoy the happy sounds rather than find them stressful.
