Why is it horrifying? People parent in different ways. If it works for her, who are we to judge?

Meh!

What exactly is horrifying about that?

Report

Not sure what the problem is?

Hmm - it doesn't work quite right, but if you click 'Home' on the page it takes you to, that takes you to the blog post that the OP is discussing.

I'm actually quite scared that she has been observing my life.

Tee2072 · 20/07/2012 19:56

Me too, Stranded.

My life, I mean. Not yours.

Not necessarily things I would choose to do, or advocate. Sounds a bit lazy, but she also indicates she has a medical condition, so perhaps this is the best she can do?

I'm not sure about horrifying though. None of the things she talks about would cause social services to become concerned.

There are far more horrifying things to happen to children.

DontmindifIdo · 20/07/2012 19:56

I dont see what's so horrifying, it's not the way I parent, but then I only have 1 DC and I don't have to deal with MS - I'm sure I'd have much lower standards if I had to deal with MS and 2DCs.

Report
Cloudbase · 20/07/2012 19:57

I think she sounds nice.

And a lot of this stuff presumably is done as, with MS, she must be restricted at times with what she can do. I don't blame her at all for trying to make things a bit easier for herself.

Is it horrifying? No. Sorry.

YANBU. Hotline SS at once. Hmm

Not sure of the problem. She's not telling others to do the same.

Hardly horrifying, nearer normal IMO

YABU - she sounds to be doing her best with what she has.
I have constant fatigue (although Dr's don't know what is causing it - I think Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and some days TV is a god send.
My children are very much loved and cared for, but I can not manage to be an all singing all dancing mum.

I read halfway down and couldnt find anything that horrifies me.
Even if she didnt have multiple sclerosis I wouldnt raise an eyebrow.
The fact she has such a debilitating condition would make me even less bothered about any parenting short cuts.

What IS the issue here?

Report
Cloudbase · 20/07/2012 20:03

Also, a lot of the things that are on that list I have done. I don't think it's great parenting, but then neither does she.

I don't suppose either of us do it all the time , and we know it's not great and we try to do our best. I think that's the difference between good and bad parenting - acknowledging your failings and trying to get it right as often as we can.

We are all only human and different things at different times can put huge amounts of pressure on us as parents. Personally I think if parents in general were able to be more open about their failings, we'd all feel able to be more open and honest and support each other better in finding ways to parent well.

Horrifying? Really? If she had said she beat her children senseless, yes, I would be horrified but she sounds nice to me. I don't agree with some of the stuff she does but big deal. She clearly loves her children very much and there's nothing 'horrifying' about that.

madhairday · 20/07/2012 20:06

Horrifying?

What are you, Mrs Perfect parent?

That blog post made me laugh. She sounds nice, and fun, and normal. I'm disabled with 2 dc too and do a lot of that kind of stuff just to keep surviving.

It's you isn't it OP. You've just made sure more people have read your rather poorly written but completely normal parenting blog. Go on admit it Wink

The only bit that made me go Hmm was teaching the child naughty words, but the rest of it sounded like perfectly average normal parenting really..
