Aibu to take dds without ds?

Quick opinion poll needed:
DS asked me last week if we could go to see Madascar 3. Its been ages since we've been to the cinema so I told all 3 DC this morning that we'd go to the 5pm film today.
Then, DS had to call his friend about homework and blooming friend's mum invited him over for a couple of hours. At midday she called again to ask if he could stay for lunch which was fine and I said I'd pick him up mid afternoon. (should have been more precise about time, duh!)
Now, I've just called her and she's taken the boys out and won't be back til 5 at which time film is starting 15 miles away!
So, do I disappoint my DDs and tell them we'll make it another time (next weekend not poss) or do we go anyway since DS has been having a nice day with his friend anyway and risk him being disappointed?!

What do your dd's think? Is there something you could do instead and then go and see the film together another time. Roller skating, swimming etc.

He's 12, the girls are 10 and 6...

I would tell my friend that I have plans and need DS back at a certain time? Would that work for you?

Not really many other options round here and its cold and cloudy! I would have taken them to another film, but typically there's nothing else on that they would enjoy. Grrr!

Doesn't he have a mobile phone?

Did he know he had to be back at a certain time for the cinema?

Get the other mum to meet you at the cinema?

Could you go tomorrow?

No mobile, its confiscated! Suggested she met us at the cinema and invited her son to come too but she said no as she has some other kids over too. Gah!

Tomorrow no good. We're belatedly celebrating the jubilee (live abroad.) I hate posters who say no to every suggestion but damn it! Can't think of another solution!

Well, Madagascar is not that cool for a 12 year old boy?

Take the dds, and tell her that you will pick your ds up after the film then.

Is it possible to collect DS from wherever they've gone? If not, I guess you'll all just have to wait.

No, unless you want to take him another day? He asked to see this movie. You should have been clear to the other mother that you had plans to see the movie at 5pm and avoided this problem.

Can't you ask to speak to him and tell him you are going to the cinema and ask if he wants to go too or stay at his friends?

I'd rent a DVD for your younger ones to see and give him his mobile or a 'be back by x time' deadline in the future.

Just take the dds. If he moans then remind him he knew he was going, but didn't speak up when other parent took him out for the afternoon. It's hardly the end of the world for a 12 yr old to not see a film with his sisters is it ?

I'm not going to disappoint the girls as I'm not sure when we'll get chance to go again, busy weekends at the mo. Will suggest taking DS to MIB (he commented on that too) next Sat as the girls will be at a party. And we can always get Madagascar on dvd when it comes out if he's really heart broken to miss it.
And, I'll make sure he has his phone back and be more assertive with kidnappy mums in future Wink

Sounds like a good compromise, hope you enjoyed the film :)
