AIBU?

AIBU to think that Jeremy Kyle gives deliberately wrong lie detector results?

I admit now that I'm being unreasonable watching the show in the first place, but...

Sometimes when I watch it and people swear blind that they were telling the truth and when it turns out it was a lie they look so confused and upset and it seems to be these times that Jeremy Kyle gives them a hard time and calls them everything under the sun. Obviously some people must lie but now and then I think the show changes the results.

Today for instance, the test said a woman was lying but she really looked confused and kept muttering under her breath in confusion that she hadn't done anything whilst Jeremy called her a 'dirty little liar' and said things like 'are you going to cry now!?' until her partner stormed off and kicked a door.

AIBU to think that sometimes the results are skewed to antagonise the guests even more and make for a more interesting show?

She looked as guilty as sin to me.

I've never seen him but he sounds horrifying.

I used to watch the show in my student days (to my shame!). As the tests are something like 96% accurate, statistically they will be wrong for approximately 1 in 25 people. Given how many people have had lie detector tests on the show it is not beyond the realms of possibility that they get it wrong.

JK and everyone involved in that show are horrible, manipulative bullies IMO.

I was going to start a thread about this. I didn't see it all but she looked like she was being emotionally abused by her partner as she said she given up seeing her friends for him. Then she was called a dirty little liar by JK but the worse thing was JK then said to her 'do you want me to drag you off the stage?' She looked vulnreable, confused and frightened.

I'm seriously thinking about complaining.

Those tests are notoriously inaccurate, otherwise the police would use them. Aside from that a large proportion of Jezza Vile's guests have drink and drug problems which I'm sure can affect the test outcome.
You don't see him acknowledging any of that though in his quest to belittle and demean people.

He is just awful.

Do you think so theunmember? I thought she looked innocent, like she wouldn't say boo to a fly never mind lie on tv.

I haven't watched JK for absolutely ages, I hate it. I think the way he speaks to people is disgusting. Who is he to call someone a 'dirty little liar'.

Yeah, she looked like my daughter when I know she's lying.

Lie Detectors are not reliable - so really they have symbolic value only. Their results are not admissable as evidence in a court so what is the point of them? there are also ways of beating them which intelligence folk get trained in.

As for JK I don't often watch it but I did catch a bit of his USA version theother day and the way he spoke to his guests was appalling and I really wanted them to get up and thump him.

Polygraph tests are notoriously unreliable, only about 60% accuracy - you might as well flip a coin.

The worst things I've ever heard was when he was having a go at a women because she hadn't allowed her ex in the delivery room when she had her baby. She'd had her new partner instead. I was gobsmacked when he sneeringly asked her what she thought gave her the right to deny him the right to see his child being born and told her it wasn't her decision to make. Shock

I would doubt very much the show would fake results after all the furore in the past regarding fake guest etc on shows. But obviously some results could be wrong. I have to say when Ive watched it and people fail lie detector tests I never believe them or their protestations of innocence because generally there are some questions they are telling the truth about - and if it was going to be wrong then surely every question would be. Plus if you had been caught out on national TV the only thing you really could do is swear your innocence. Grin

They also do dna tests regularly. I really hope that when those children are older they sue the arse off JK and ITV1 for the intrusion into their private life. People forget that children actually grow up Hmm

I don't think they are deliberately faked, but they do put undue credence on what is essentially pseudo-science.

Lie detector tests are notoriously inaccurate and there are ways of beating them. Apparently if you get yourself in a state of agitation when telling the truth, rather than trying to remain calm when tell the porky pies you stand a better chance of beating the test.

Would they be able to sue the show? I really hate when halfway through the arguing he stops the guests and shows a live feed of the children playing in the back, I really don't think he should be allowed to do that.

I do wonder how the results are interpretated, though.

There was on, where a woman confessed to kissing another man and when she failed 'the sexual contact' question, JK was demanding a confession, but a kiss can come up as 'sexual contact'.

How the questions are worded is very important. It wasn't made clear, when carrying out the test, whether this was a seperate occassion to the confessed kiss.

I must be really gullible Blush, it's always announced on the show that the tests are 99.something% accurate and that the testers swear by their test - obviously that's a load of rubbish then!

Complaining? Really? They chose to go on the stupid show in the first place!

There was a really interesting article in the guardian about a mother and son who had been on the show. As soon as the arrived at the hotel they were split up and each put in a room with a researcher. For the rest of the evening the researchers kept ringing their room saying things like "X said you did this when he was a child" etc. Basically they were egging them on & stirring them up, but not given them a chance to speak to each other so by the time they got on the show they were fuming with each other.

One of the big issues was the son not having a job. JK then said they'd give him a job on the show. He later found out that it was unpaid work experience & he would have to pay his own travel expenses which he couldn't afford.

They ended up working through their problems but no thanks to the show. It's a horrible programme, how something awful hasn't happened as a result of it I don't know.

The Human Rights Act says that every person is entitled to a private life.
How the fuck then can JK justify being able to carry out such private a personal test and there not be consequences. OK. the fuckwits parents have 'consented' but the child hasn't.
It would be novel but if I were one of those poor unfortunate kids I'd certainly give it a shot.

I'd be more pissed off with my parents than a show that probably wouldn't exist anymore.

I know peole choose to go on the show, but they should be treated like guests and no something jk has stepped in.

And shocked at the episode that jk said an ex has a right to be at a birth..... No way would I have someone in the labour who would stress me out or not support me.
