To think that the Queen of England won't notice if my DD is wearing summer uniform and

texting me today about her wearing it tomorrow is too short notice?
Queenie is coming to our town tomorrow, DD was one of the lucky 35 to be drawn out of a bag to go to see her.
I've just had a text from the school advising winter uniform is to be worn. I only put her old one in the recycling bag two days ago.
Very cross.

Sod's law!

Solution: borrow?

Actually HMQ is very good at spotting variations in uniform (all those years inspecting parades).

It sounds as if the school wants to send a pack of tidy children in uniform uniform (IYSWIM), and if you don't want to follow the requirement, I suggest you let the school know asap so they can reallocate the place.

she's the Queen of more than just England

I think if your dd is the only child not in winter uniform then Queenie may well notice

If I was you, I'd try to borrow one for her - or buy her a new one (which she will be wearing next year, after all)

It's a lovely thing for your dd to do, so I wouldn't want her to feel 'different'

Surely you can borrow one from somebody? And why did you put her winter uniform in the recycling bag? It's still fecking freezing!

And I initially read your post that The Queen had texted you. I was very impressed.

Not a question of not wanting to follow the requirement, I just can't. I don't have a single item of winter uniform left.
I will rummage in the lost property. All her friends are either the wrong sex or much bigger than her.
She would be gutted if she couldn't go. She was very concerned that I wouldn't let her because of my dislike disinterest in the whole house of Windsor.

Xposted. Yeah, me and Lizzie are on first name terms.
She won't be wearing the uniform next year, they are required to be in summer stuff now and I am trying to keep the house clutter free for our next move.

I saw her yesterday. We were supposed to be in day dress and hats. Given we were manning an apple stall (chopping, juicing, operating greasy machinery), and there was hail and sleet, I am jolly pleased I ignored them! When HRH walked past, I was standing in the hail holding up apple trees so they didn't fall on her head!

That said, all the school kids there had done their best to look smart despite the conditions. How hard I tried to comply, personally, would depend on whether my child would be upset to look different.

I think I would have bought DD new uniform regardless if she had the chance to meet the Queen.

However, I am a total Royalist.

We must be in the same Northern town, OP. I've just been out and every single council employee is out there, trimming weeds, cutting grass and polishing turds. The Queen must think she lives in such a lovely clean country.

Of course school should have told you ages ago.
But this is one of those situations where you just have to make a soln - school may well decide she doesn't get to meet Lizzie if she turns up in wrong uniform I imagine. And even if they don't your dd - unless VERY confident - may well feel awkward.

Call school & explain - they'll have a spare set she can wear I'm sure.
Do you really have NO friends with girls the same size as yours? (Even siblings in year above/below if your dd is unusual size?) - sure people would be happy to lend for such an atypical occasion.

Oh I am an absolute Royalist.

I Love the Queen. I would have both of my kids doing handstands for her.

Your daughter is v. lucky (IMO)

What will happen if the queen does notice? - will your DD be sent to the tower? - I think not.

I think the royals should get a grip on real life, and if that means having to cope with the idea that a child may not be able to wear the winter uniform because it's been put in the recycling, then so be it. Schools always get their knickers in a knot over royal visits. I doubt her Maj. actually gives a monkeys.

Hope your DD isn't being forced to curtsy Grin

Iwanta - if you've got Gullivars and cockend shopping centre you are near me.
I have spoken to the school, they are going to root on lost property for me, there was a lot of huffing and puffing going on before they agreed to that.

It's ridiculous kow-towing to Royalty like this that confirms my view that they are an anachronistic waste of money. Up against the wall. The lot of them. Ideally in winter tiaras so they are an even easier target.

Ooh, you're in my home town! the infamous 40 minute visit isn't it?

Report
AllYoursBabooshka · 16/05/2012 13:50

I doubt the queen will give a hoot.

She's an 86 year old woman who will want the whole thing to be over quickly so she can get inside away from this freakishly cold May weather to have a hot cup of tea and a fig roll.

ripsishere · 16/05/2012 13:52

Yes Prof, you were one of the people who advised me about where to and where not to live long ago when I was still living in Switzerland.
What is the 40 minute visit?
DD is under the impression (because I told her) that she is staying at the Premier Inn near the M6 tonight before she arrives tomorrow.

Your daughter will remember meeting the Queen for the rest of her life - will she want to tell her grandchildren that she meet the Queen once but felt awful wearing the wrong clothes?

I forgot we were supposed to wear white shirts for our Confirmations and turned up in a blue one. Still makes me feel sick to this day. And that was just a bishop...

It's actually the Cockhedge shopping centre. Still makes me laugh.

I sent mine in (quietly) an unironed uniform!

Report
ripsishere · 16/05/2012 14:05

But I started calling it cockend and both DH and DD think that's its name.
When DD was christened, I had a red dress made for her. I got into big trouble with the priest and she had to hold a nappy. Noone, not even the catholic himself told me she had to wear white.
Hopefully there will be a not too horrible uniform for her to borrow. I can put it through the machine later on.
Still cross though.
