Fuck - have just spilt a bottle of water over my kindle. I have only had it since Christmas. The bottom third of the screen has gone all funny. It's broken isn't it. Someone please tell me how to bring it back to life...

Put it in a bowl and cover it with dry rice. Seriously, it really worked for my mobile after it fell in the shower (long story, don't ask).

Thanks. Have put in a bowl of rice on radiator and will contact customer services in the morning. Have majorly gone off it now anyway - water wouldn't hurt a book like that - the bath used to be my fave place to read. Dh will kill me though as it was from him and he was thrilled that I have used it do much already Sad

For future use you can buy waterproof covers so you can still read in the bath

Ds put a wet towel on my kindle when we were on holiday and the screen went funny. Dh got me mine too, and he just contacted Amazon when we got back. They were fantastic. They sent us the packaging to send it back to them and they replaced it already loaded with all the books I had bought on it. All for free. It was a pita not being able to finish the book I was reading on holiday, but I couldn't fault Amazon at all, they were fab.

Amazon are amazing - my DH fell on my kindle and cracked the screen and they replaced for free. I was totally honest with them and told them what had happened. Ring them in the morning.

Another endorsement for Amazon customer service. DH dropped my Kindle onto a tiled floor and the screen froze. I phoned them and they replaced it no problem at all.

If you say it just broke they will replace it. If you tell them you damaged it they won't. Its up to you.

I told them that I didn't sit on it while I was holiday know what happenned to mine, and they replaced it no bother.

I've had mine replaced, I just said that the screen had gone funny and they said I would have a replacement by the following lunchtime.
It's been replaced twice, once when I spilt water on it and once when I trod on it.

Mine got mashed (by kids i think) and Amazon replaced it for free, no questions asked. It was with me by the next morning - brilliant customer care.

When dp's kindle broke he took it back to pc world but they were very unhelpful and didn't do anything for him, he then called kindle customer services and they sent him a new one out for free.

TheParanoidAndroid, I was totally upfront about what had happened to mine and had no problem. DH had dropped it so I was doubtful that they would replace it but I was asked whether it had been dropped from shoulder height and replied (truthfully) that it was actually more like waist height - he was standing with it in his hand, arm extended and it slipped out of his fingers. I don't know what would have been the result if it had been shoulder height (I also know that OP's situation is spillage rather that droppage) but they asked no further questions and arranged to send me a replacement (NB it was within warranty period, which might well have helped). Meanwhile, my DM and DF had already bought me a cover for it as a Xmas pressie so my new one is more protected. (phew!).

DH brought one from ebay. He was well pleased at winning it for a really good price. Stupid bugger didn't realise the screen was fucked despite the bloody great picture showing a fucked screen! As it was less than a year old, Amazon replaced it :-O Was gobsmacked, 10/10 for customer service. And I called at 11pm (just to get opening times) - a lovely lady answered the phone (think they outsource) and a new one was with us in two days!

I'd also looked at getting screen fixed - cheapest was £85 plus p+p, and you can't buy individual screens for love nor money. Call Amazon now Smile
