some theiving twunt has stole over three hundred pounds out of my account literally taking the food out of my ds mouth as i had no money left to put gas and electricity on my meter and no money to buy food, thankfully I was paid after a couple of days and cancelled my card and have opened a case with the bank to get my money back , I was wondering if and how I can catch
the person who did this? I just need to eliminate a person quite close to me as they hacve had a chance to get their hands on my card (and have had a history of theft although I do not like to give a dog a bad name )

The bank should be able to tell you where it went. Which cash machine etc

Happened to me. Got it all back, but learned my lesson and opened an extra bank account and money goes into both.

Did someone have your pin number or was card used to buy goods? If used to buy goods then should be traceable.

I think you need to ask the bank about the transactions which occurred. Anyone ordering goods over the internet/phone would have to have them delivered somewhere, so worth checking out the transactions. Does the person you suspect, know your PIN, because if the transaction was a cash withdrawal, they would have to have known it. If so, ask the bank to look at the cctv where ther withdrawal took place.

Fraudulent transactions cost banks loads of money, so they should be as keen as you to get to the bottom of it, but keep asking them for updates.

I've just had this happen to me...again! I dealt with the fraud office of my building society, who gave me a case number, and are currently investigating. I have now had a new card, and the money refunded (within a few days). It is their opinion that my number had been hacked from an internet store site!Angry

Last time, someone cloned my card from an ATM machine, but because it was only a savings account, and not visa , was only used in London (250 miles away from me!). People using the same machine on visa and mastercard debit cards had money taken out in Eastern Europe!!!

Luckily I also have 2 current accounts, otherwise we would have been in deep doo-doo.

they bought phone top ups and other things over the internet using my account details , it seems they have took my details off my card as I have always had my card around and have never lost it.
I am so angry i could burst I worked really hard for that money and our financial situation has been really bad so to take all that after I worked all hours never saw my ds for months and then only had enough to cover bills I cant help but take it personally .
I have learnt a lesson and will be much more careful and much less trusting in future.

contact your bank asap; this happened to me (somehow my card details were taken online) the cheeky f**kers even ordered a takeway to be delivered! I had to sign a statement that Natwest sent in the post to declare that it was definitely not me or DH and i agreed with prosecution of the guilty party; money back into my account within 48 hours and new cards issued

My MIL had her card hacked/cloned.. the numpties who did it used the card to order takeaways, clothes from a sport shop online.. and the best one.. book a holiday.. complete with names and passport details.

The bank told us that the major problem at the moment is the chip and pin machines in shops, as they store data. If the machine is stolen and the person knows what they are doing with it, they can get all the details off the card AND the pin number in one swoop.

If you haven't done so already then you need to report it to the police - although your bank will have passed it to their fraud department, a crime reference number makes the case much "stronger" and the police and bank should ask you about anyone who's had access to your card. As it's fraud your bank should put all the money back into your account, but do contact the police!

It was stuff through vodaphone for me! £215 worth. I've never used vodaphone or any of their products in my life! And they tried to do it twice, but the bank got wise and informed me!

I had my card with me at work, when the transaction took place.

I feel sick about it.

Just got and signed my 'statement' and sent it straight back today, to declare transaction nothing to do with me.I hope they catch someone, but not holding my breath.

Hi OP
Is it a card you have ever used on the internet?
I ask because this has happened to me recently - my laptop apparently has a key logger installed on it somewhere (embedded into something I must have clicked on) - fraudsters tried (and failed because I was quick to notice) to steal a total of £830.
You need to get your bank to update your card so the number is different and dont use the internet to buy anything until the keylogger is removed (assuming you have the same problem as me!!!)
Thanks to fraudsters I have had my amazon account closed (with my very long wishlist deleted! sob)
Banking with first direct has been fab because they have been really really good - their fraud office have phoned me 3 times (even though no money actually left my account)
