My DS is 5 months old so this is his first Christmas. I've absolutely thrown myself into it - bought him clothes, toys, books, games and a stocking. He's been weaning for a few weeks so we're pretty confident that he'll be able to have some mashed-up Christmas dinner. I've been saving since he was born so that I can spoil my DP and his family (who we are currently living with so that we can save up to get a place of our own and this is my chance to really thank them for their kindness). I've bought food, chocolates, wine, presents, decorations, our own Christmas tree and baubles, miniature figurine sets to hang on the tree, a huge pile of "My First Christmas" things, a new highchair and giftboxes for everything. I've been running about cleaning everything for the last week so that this Christmas is perfect because it's the first Christmas with my DS and it's also the first Christmas I'll have with DP because last Christmas we were both with our respective families. I've gone above and beyond for everyone, all of the presents were bought and wrapped by the end of November and have been under the tree looking beautiful and shiny. I've sent double what I normally have on Christmas Wrappings and Ribbons and Sticky-Stars just to make everything look beautiful, I've bought a load of Christmas Films that we've all sat down to watch, I've been singing Christmas Carols all month and the whole house is really looking forward to tomorrow morning (including me).

And afte all that effort and all of the thought thatI've put into the presents, decoration, everything.... I'm ill

I have the most nauseating and despicable "cold" this side of reality.

My head is pounding, sinuses are blocked, I'm running a fever, coughing my lungs up, sneezing so loudly I'm sure I've broken the sound barrier, eyes are streaming, I've got cold sweats, all my muscles feel like someone has poured sand in them and I can't have my customary Lemsip because anything I take I throw straight back up again!!

Wahhh Xmas Sad

get some medised (kids medicine) it will dry up your nose, get rid of the sore and generally make you feel better. Take it today but dont advise it tomorrow as it can make you drowsy. I swear by it for me and the children and it really does work

Oh, life is a bummer sometimes. I'm just getting over my 10 days of antibiotics, coughing and chest infection. I feel knackered.

I am sure all will go well for you - just get other people to do some of the running around tomorrow.

Sending DP out for as many medicines as we can buy. Medised sounds brilliant - hope that works!

I hate being ill, I'm normally so stoic about things and I just get on with it, but when I get ill I get ill and it knocks me for six!

Otrivine nasal spray is magic, clears your nose right out which helps a lot. Sending healthy vibes your way...

Get well soon. Try a large sloe gin, some cocodamol and ibuprofen. And buy some decongestant as well before the pharmacy shuts for the holidays.

Works every time for me:-)

I had this last year. Fecking evil it was! I had conjunctivitus (sp?) , ear ache, mouth ache, head cold, shaking, feverish. Was taking co-codomal every morning just to get me started each day.
So yeah, I know your pain and it's sooooo unfucking fair! Xmas Sad

Look on the bright side- seeing as you're so organised you can just rest now. No wrapping presents etc. Xmas Smile

Proper honey and lemon is better than lemsip, and even if you throw it up, put lots of honey in it so that hopefully some sugar will get into you before that happens. And take Sudafed. Imo, it's the best one.

You can still have a nice Christmas, snuggle up under a blanket on the sofa and let Christmas come to you.

MIL is sorting out the turkey for tomorrow and talking me through it so I know what to do for next year Xmas Grin I'm curled up in my Marvel Comics hoodie watching Live At the Apollo reruns on BT Vision. Sod everything - I'm not moving a muscle! DP has gone on a medicine run and is then getting fish and chips for lunch. Bloody lovely. At least I have a helpful DP!

I feel for you OP - last year I had the flu for the whole two weeks kids were off school - I just about managed to get up for an hour on christmas day and then nearly fainted so had to go back to bed. DH was ill too - we ended up freezing as much food as possible and defrosting bolognese sauce for the kids (they didn't care) me and DH didn't eat because we felt too rubbish

Without wanting to sound like a bitch, be grateful for what you do have. Some families on here will have their first without a family memember they have alot this year, or spend it alone, or spend it in hospital because their kids are so I'll, they cant come home.
Yes life is unfair but there is always someone dealing with worse in this sad life.

Its a shame for sure, but with your thread title it sounded like something terrible had happened! Your little one will still enjoy christmas, and thats the main thing really!

Lisa me and you are singing from the same hymn sheet!
Ive just left work and grumbled a bit about being out late yet then realised many families will be stuck by their child's bedside, make the most of things I say!
