AIBU?

To be livid that Clarks make shoes that can't be repaired?

I took a pair of Clarks ballet flats to my local shoe mender to be resoled and reheeled today, only to be told that because the sole is made from thermoplastic moulding, he can't resole it because no glue will stick to it. He said that the use of this kind of sole is increasingly common because it's cheap to use, and means that people have to throw the shoes away when the sole wears out, and buy a new pair.

I'm infuriated at having to put a perfectly good and comfortable pair of shoes in the bin because Clarks have ensured that they can't be repaired. Well, one thing's for sure, I won't be buying my replacement pair from Clarks. Angry

They are bot a perfectly good pair of shoes if they need to be resoled and reheeled.

If you've not had them for long, you can take them back and state that they aren't "fit for use", which the Trading Standards Act says they must be.

Otherwise - I'd just avoid buying from Clarks! Never liked them anyway - always seemed very clunky to me.

They are notorious for it. I had a pair of Clarks boots and the heels broke - kind of caved in. No way of fixing them. Stupid me, I presumed it was my fault and bought another pair - same thing happened. The cobbler basically told me never to buy Clarks shoes again as it happens so often.

I am also a victim and cobbler told me the same thing! Actually forgot and recently bought another pair Blush

My dds clarks school shoes broke after she'd only had them about 6 weeks. It was the strap that broke. I tried to get them fixed and was told that wasn't possible so I thought I'd try taking them back to clarks to see what they might do about it. They replaced them, free of charge. I just had to show on my bank statement where and when I'd bought them. I was pleasantly surprised.

I have a pair of Clarks boots from last year and I've had them resoled and reheeld by a local independent cobbler with no problems.

Oh that's weird as I have boots and several pairs of shoes from Clarks and have had them all re-heeled at some point by my local 'shoe man'!

I've worn three pairs of Clark's ballet flats to absolute death over the last three/four years. They are the comfiest I've found, they don't slip, they come in a variety of colours and at £39.99 I'm happy when I throw them out after twelve months.

If your cobbler is anything like our local one it would've cost you more to get them resoled and healed than a new pair of pumps!
