AIBU?

To create an alternative advent calendar

this has been on my mind for years. I dont really like chocolate...(pauses for gasps of horror). So I was thinking a cheese advent calendar should be available as an alternative. Little cubes of cheese behind each door. Perfect start to the day...or any other ideas?

Nice idea, but do you have to have any food in it?

Why not just the dates...and the face of a woman looking more and more stressed as Xmas draws closer? Grin

By December 24th she'll be positively bald and full of pills/alcohol.

I'd like a wine advent calendar.

Will you keep it in the fridge?

Oh a cheese advent calendar, my idea of heaven.

But it would be a bit torturous, you'd get this gorgeous tiny bit of cheese and not be able to scoff the rest of the block Grin

How could you inflict a small piece of stilton on someone?

It just wouldn't be festive.

Hmmm that's true Agent. Maybe a slab of cheese? It would have to be a very large door!

My son doesn't like chocolate. So I get stung for twenty five bloody quid every year for a Lego advent calendar.

Red wine doesn't need to be in the fridges Trills - it'll be fine - you could maybe go for little spirit miniatures for later in the month?

The cheese one needs little crackers too, stuffing cheese on it's own would be uncivilised.

And possibly sold as a multipack with the wine calender, helpfully coordinated for the best taste combinations...

I meant fridge for the cheese :)

Oh Yum! With port on Christmas Eve...

My DP would love that. I suggest a MN cheese advent calender competition.

Points for cheese selection and storage creativity.

I fill mine (for my husband and children) with different things; crayons, yo-yos, candy canes, GIANT Roses, mini gingerbread men (in John Lewis)...lots of things to fill them with, if like me, you just don't want your family eating shit every day.

Gillian McKeith's advent calendar would be shite.

The big reveal on Christmas Eve would be a small dried fig.

You can work backwards from there.

Pfft Gillian MacKeith. The first window would contain mummy dust.

Report
TeWihara · 05/11/2011 22:19

Grin

Gillian wouldn't have food - oh no. It would be 24 windows of poop to identify and grade.

You're supposed to give stuff up for Advent Hmm

"My son doesn't like chocolate. So I get stung for twenty five bloody quid every year for a Lego advent calendar."

Buy a wooden one with drawers that you can shuffle around and use year after year, then get a small lego kit and put a piece in each drawer.

That way you only have to buy the calendar once and it should work out cheaper in the long run.

"You're supposed to give stuff up for Advent"

Really? I thought that was just Lent.
