He talks nonsense....we know this...he's a baby...ok. But today, I noticed he was gabbling away and what was he saying? I'll tell you....he was yelling..."Fack! Fack! Fack!" which DD immedately copied.

She's already got a weird Aussie accent..so it basically sounds like she's saying "Fuck, fuck! Fuck!" Hmm

A lot of words sound like swear words coming from a young child. Such as truck and duck and a bazillion others.

Does it really matter?

DreamsOfSteam · 27/09/2011 16:39

well I would say yes it does matter. When your stood in the queue at the supermarket or sat in the doctors waiting room you don't really want your children to be yelling out things that sound like they are swearing. Yes there are loads of things that sound like swear words already, but do you really need cbeebies adding a few more?

My DS2 was going on a 'bear hunt' in the park at the weekend. He's just turned 2 and has a very weird accent (weegie-Geordie-Sussex combo), so the 'hunt' (in particular) but was not at all clear. People kept giving him odd looks.

That would make me laugh, to be honest Grin

The 23 month old I live with has been telling me all the 'bitch' with Daddy yesterday (they went to the beach, all I get is "Bitch! Daddy!") Grin

I was Shock when my 21 month DD2 started saying ''uck, 'uck' and wondering whether I'd let a fuck slip out at some point.

I was so relieved when she went off and came back shouting ''uck' with a book in her hand for me to read Grin

The baby in baby jake is cute, the rest of it is a pile of pants.

And what's with the rabbit whose eyes make him look like he's on LSD?

Nibbles the rabbit. Hmm, could cause some misunderstandings Grin

Years ago at a biker club do and we met someone from another club. He had piercings on his... so his nickname was Nipples. Ex-H had a language processing failure and said "But why are you called Nibbles?"

Baby Jake is banned here - hate it Angry

Program coincided with the arrival of newborn DD, so now DS(3) not only copies her all the time, but also makes up words like Baby Jack.

At the moment he's trying to send me insane with "dack". e.g. Do you want weetabix or toast for breakfast? I want dack. WTF?? Put your boots on please. No, they're dacky. Arrrrgggh.

I haven't seen the tv show, but was readng DS the story in the cbeebies comic, which featured the aforesaid Nibbles.

Cue friend's 2 yr old DD piping up 'Daddy has nibbles.' Me: 'really, what are they?' (thinking snacks!) Friend's DD: 'they're on his chest.' Grin friend and I didn't know where to look!

It's very repetitive and got bored quite quickly with it. DD is 23 months and is bored of it too.

My DS keeps picking up my fob watch and shouting 'COCK!, COCK!', I think he means 'CLOCK!, CLOCK!' but keeps missing the mark. He loves baby Jake though and has a nice little dance which he does throughout the whole show.

God baby jake irritates me immensely. What's with the stupid words like 'goggi gee ha'? And that stupid song and dance he does. I could wax lyrical about how much i detest it! But I won't. I shall walk away taking deep breaths and counting to 10.

Fucking show... DS has now started singing "Goggy Gia" rather loudly and obnoxiously at bed time... Hmm

Quite like Abney and Teal or whatever it's called...

Thanks to this show ds2 is convinced the baby in my tummy is baby Jake. Will not Consider it could be a girl.

Talking on swearing he kept asking for a bloody icelolly. I was shocked and said I really don't think a lolly covered in blood would be tasty..... He looked confused and went without. Only a few days later when he asked again I realised bloody was him saying buzz lightyear Blush poor boy

Yes, DS started saying nonsense words after Baby Jake as well. Funny that so many have noticed it, I thought perhaps it was just something they did at this age and it happened to coincide. He fixates on a sound - last week it was "bauk" and tacks it onto the end of sentences or replaces words with it - like your DS, Brynn! We get the "No I want bauk!" "You are bauk, Mummy!"

He is convinced that "Nibbles" is "Nipples" as well and won't be persuaded otherwise.

When I first saw Baby Jake, I thought the opening sequence looked promising. But no, it's all just timewaster - a10 kids living in a windmill, they go through each in turn, but the show isn't about that, it's about the baby having silly animated adventures.

Awful show, thankfully DD seems to be about as impressed as I am. Raa-raa is very popular though, and she tries to sing along. Unfortunately she sings it as "Raa-raa, Bugger, noise noise, lala"

She is also in the habit of waving to passing creatures and greeting them. "Hello dog" etc, except she pronounces squirrel as "ass hull" BlushGrin

I think a lot of people are forgetting what childhood's about.
Not everything in a child's life is supposed to fast-track their development. They're allowed to have fun occasionally, and if you think your child's too old to watch Baby Jake, you know what to do, but the show's creative and a lot of fun. I really don't think it's deserving of this sort of slating. It's just for fun. I'll bet you can all remember shows from when you were kids which were real fun. Well guess what. You parents probably didn't like them that much.
