To think that people who choose to drive a sports car are...

...just big ol' attention seekers.

'Ooo ooo look at meeee - NO! You must look '

Not that I think there's anything wrong with seeking attention if you need it

I can honestly say I have never seen any point in them.

They are noisy, low down and tend too look like odd womens shoes.

Defiantly attention seeking!

I'd love a sports car

When I've finished with my huge people carrier / estate car phase I would like a MX5 or similar
(SIL has just bought a new MX5 Envy)

This made me smile, my DH has a BMW Z4. He genuinely loves the thrill of fast acceleration and is impatient so likes to be able to overtake quickly and relatively safely. I know he loves how it looks but his Asperger's is too severe to worry about what anyone else thinks!

But they look cool.

Some sports cars are nice. The old MG's are awesome to look at.

Yes, I love old MGs. I would like one of them, and an old VW campervan.

... lucky beggars and there would go I if I could afford to!

Some people actually like them.

Some people like leopardprint scarves. Some people like giant designer sunglasses. Some people like personalised number plates. Some people like to do all sorts of things that I think draw the eye and not necessarily in a good way.

There is a guy who lives on our street with a big fat shiny car worth at least £60,000 (so say people who know about these things). It's a street full of little terraced houses and I always thought that if I were him I'd swap it for a £10k car and get £50k more house.

Loved my MX5 so much, drove it every day, had to put the roof down and open window so I could get out of it in tight parking places and the garage when I was 7+ months pregnant.

It was not look at me, it was having fun before the kids arrived after a difficult mmc and many months of not getting pregnant

YABU. I have an SLK. I worked hard for it paid cash for it and love it. I did years of family friendly cars and once my son went to uni I bought a car that I have always wanted. It drives like a dream and makes me smile.

Don't get me wrong, DP would give his left testicle for anything that goes "VA-roooooon, VA-rooooom" really loudly. I still love him though!

If it makes you happy, Who gives a floating bag of piss what anyone else thinks?

DP's Lotus was one of the reasons I fell in love with him.

I have an MX5 as my midlife crisis car. And I play LOUD ROCK MUSIC when I'm in it.

But I turn it down in town, 'cos I'm not a complete wanker. Grin

Lovely choice, DirtyDessert. Envy :)

If I had my way I'd have an Alfa Spider, a classic GTV6, a classic Mercedes SL and a TVR.

Ohhh!

You know I would probably start gushing if you turned out to be a quirky prostitute with a blonde wig on when he picked you up RightUp.

I saw a woman driving an Aston Martin Vantage the other day.

Cow. I wanted to pull her over and steal her car. And I don't even own a hoodie! That's the effect it had on me. I'd LOVE an Aston Martin. Not to be looked at (or carjacked) but for the sheer pleasure of driving one.

YABU

Why drive a boring old saloon when you can have a lovely sports car? When I was a lass I'd only go out with boys with sports cars. But this was in the day when MGs weren't yet classic cars. Now I have a classic car as well as my everyday car. And yes it is red. Of course. Nostalgia? Hmmm...

DH has a German thing that has to be parked in the one space on the drive in zone 2 London. We have a family so I get the big thing that has to be parked on the street, sometimes the next street. DH's thing car rarely leaves the drive because he is always at work. I have to use mine every day sometimes several times a day and his makes life very inconvenient. I hate driving his because you really have to drive it instead of using P, D, N, cruise, etc. Just once or twice (ie, meeting with DD's snotty head teacher I have used it and revved it up to make a point - me being small and blonde and old and quiet and ever so genteel Grin.

Hmmm. If I had endless amounts of money I suppose I'd buy a car that is fittingly luxurious. I wouldn't go without/struggle to meet finance repayments for one though - I think that's when it becomes a bit desperate. But different strokes for different folks I suppose. What I certainly wouldn't do is brag about what car I drive: I find it cringeworthy when people drop it into a conversation.

I used to have an old, beautifully restored MG.

I loved it. It was a bright red convertible and I used to feel like something out of a film when driving along.

I looked like a huge twat though, when I stopped at traffic lights and had ghastly convertible hair, or if I stalled the fucking thing. Grin

But they are great fun. They go fast, and they make you go weeeeeeee round roundabourts.

Another MX5 driver here - it's too small to be flashy, it's like a toy sports car.

I save my ire for 4x4 owners.

I thought so too until we had my BIL nissan 350z for a week whilst he borrowed ours (just had to google to make sure I got the numbers and letter the correct way round.... the most I know about cars is the names of the topgear presenters.) And omg did that thing move. It was fun. Expensive on fuel, but fun.
