Fully prepared to get flamed here - along the lines of what business is it of yours.....

I was in the park yesterday, and I noticed a Thai lady with two small blonde girls. I only briefly glanced at her, and it was pretty noticeable that she was not really a lady. Although she had on jeans and a ladies sweater, and had long hair in a ponyband, unless she had some very significant hormone issues, it was a man.

There was stubble, a very masculine body shape, forearms, shoulders, hands, no hips - and he/she reacted quite aggressively when one of the girls pulled his leg when he was on the phone - pushing her off very crossly. The girls themselves looked bizzare - very unkempt, unbrushed hair, and the older one, about 3 or 4, was in a full on polyester princess outfit and nothing else.

Something didn't quite ring true - obviously, if the family knows they are employing a man not a lady, that should be OK. AIBU to have thought twice about this, though? Obv I'm not going to do anything about it - but I think its not something you see every day?

Because men can't look after girls? I'm not getting the point or the problem tbh.

How do you know it was a nanny, not a parent/friend?

That it made me look twice, I guess.

I would have looked twice probably. But not posted about it.

This man didn't seem to be doing too good a job based on their appearance and his flicking off the smallest one from him like she was a fly. Of course men CAN. I think it wasn't a friend - he/she was pretty much ignoring the girls, never speaking to them, just literally watching they were safe.

Agree with lifechanger. What issue is there with a cross dressing/possible transgender nanny? If you could tell from a brief glance then I would safely assume that the family gave the person more than a brief glance before they employed him or her.

Any of your business? No, unless you think he was genuinely physically abusing the girl he pushed off his leg.

FWIW, my 3.5yo DD2 often goes out in a polyester princess outfit. And her hair is always a mess despite my best effort. Care to judge me too? I have short hair so my DDs say I look like a boy.

Would you have thought twice about any of this if he were a 'proper' woman or man?

Hmm

Sorry OP, but I did have a little chuckle at the judginess of " full on polyester princess outfit".

You..what?..wait...

You deducted that this was an employee of the family just by LOOKING?

have you got magic eyes?

Oh, OH! wait! I know you've got them glasses they were showing on BBC the other day where you can watch a film wearing the glasses and they do really supercool subtitles and the man was saying that in the FUTUREUREUREURE they might be able to get them for deaf people and the glasses will be able to "listen" to the words you're saying and SUBTITLE you - and it'll also be good for live translations between people of different languages.

Did you have a pair of those glasses OP? Did you get them off the Daily Express back page adverts?

There are quite a few Thai/Philippino/Vietnamese nannies in our park.

Maybe the parents aren't paying him enough to do more than the bare minimum.

Maybe the kids had been a pain in the arse all day, refusing to get dressed and brush their hair, and he just wanted 5 flipping minutes to make a phonecall in peace.
