To not know if I am in labour when it's my 6th baby?

Only my 5th labour though. (had twins)

My DH is a plane ride away, so I really need to decide!

I felt a bit crampy around 1.30am when I went to bed. Managed ot get to sleep. Woke up at 2am with a headache and crampiness, took a couple of paracetamol and tried to get back to sleep. I've managed to doze off a bit, but not get any sleep. Have backache cramps/contractions, but not overly painful, especially when I walk about, but very uncomfortable at times. Some have been 5 mins apart, some further apart so difficult to time. They are lasting around 20 seconds or so. I started had a sweep last Weds and started having blood tinged discharge on Friday night. Since the early hours the discharge is much more bloody, not bright red though. (not worried) The 'contractions' are getting more painful.

My previous labours have been really short. A few mild cramps 10-15 minutes apart, then painful contractions 3 mins apart. Established labours recorded at 5hrs, 4hrs, 3hrs and 45 minutes in that order, so I am just not used to a labour like this, if that's what it is.

Have spoken to DH and he is on standby, my Mum is upstairs asleep, but reluctant to wake her. Bit worried that if it is labour DH won't get back in time even if he gets the next flight as he won't be here for another 5 hours. Confused

I feel very silly! Blush

Get your husband home. With your history of quick labours I would say it is madness to wait any longer.

Eeek - no idea, sorry, but with that run of previous labour durations, I'd suggest getting to the labour ward ASAP, even if it's a false alarm, as you're probably due a 5 minute labour this time around!!!!!

That sounds pretty labourific to me, midori. If he's five hours away, get the man home!

I had false labour pains for weeks with my two, so know how confusing and frustrating they can be.... but given your history of short labour times, I would give the labour ward a ring and see what they say.

Wishing you the best of luck with number 6! :)

I would get him home. I was in labour all night with my 3rd and didn't know it!

well. if you're pregnant and overdue, you've had a sweep, you've had a show, got crampy feelings and have done this all before a number of times..... i would say get him home NOW!

don't be by yourself. wake your mum, relax and go with it.

good luck, and hope your dh is home soon.

Sorry, should have said, I'm 37+6 today, not overdue. I was given the sweep as I have GD, and number of other complications and DS2 and 3 were born at 38 and 37 weeks respectively. I was booked for induction on Thurs, at 38+3, so wasn't really expecting this!

I have told DH to get home and am just trying to time the contractions so when I ring the hospital I can tell them how far apart/how long they are. Then I'll ring my friend shortly when I know she'll be up to ask if she can take me to the hospital, which I am sure she can as it was pre-arranged, although obviously no date and time.

Woken Mum up. apparently I'm very calm. What else am I supposed to be?! Can't change anything and it's not really painful yet.

The last two were 3 mins apart, so maybe I should get more of a move on... Grin

I'm a bit excited that I shoul dget to meet my baby girl today. Grin

Ooooooooh! I'm excited as well. I hope your husband makes it home on time, it's all film-like, with him rushing home from the airport to the birth. Three minutes apart? He'd better not hit a cross-wind.

Never that sure about the people who say 'you're calm' like it's so odd. You're in labour. You pretty much expected that to happen. It is exciting and wonderful, but not everyone is a squealing sort.

Well I was in labour! I had our beautiful baby girl at 13.09, she weighed 6lb 15oz, so just right really.

My DH's flight was delayed several times, so it was eventually 2hrs late. I think i must be the happiest woman ever to find out she was only 2cm dilated on arrival at hospital! (that was at 9.30am) I made the decision to stay on the bed to try and slow things down and he got there just as I really needed to push. The midwives were brilliant! Friend who cam with me was brilliant.

Abigail has a fine set of lungs and once she got the hang of how to latch fed for about 45mins.
