AIBU?

To think that the song Nicole Whatserface sang on BGT was obscene.

And shouldn't have been on a family tv show? I know it was after nine but there must have been millions of kids watching.
It was all about her body being touched, someone going down down down, keeping her coming and talking dirty to her.
I am not usually so prudish, but I found it really offensive.

I had this exact conversation with a friend afterwards Saggy. Its so overtly sexual, I think its very gratuitous, this lady needs to use her body/sexuality to sell music. Its just so typical of the pop music industry...Rhianna SM! I know sex sells and all that but seriously its constantly in your face or on the radio

I'm sure my DH will assume I am just being Envy but I thought the same - and I think she is too old to sing a song like that - although I don't know how old she is - 26/7??
BTW I like her other songs - good pop - and have them on my MP3 player

What was the song?

Yanbu. A very very bad example to both young girls and boys.

Yep, awful. And shitty English (grammar) too; "me like"

WTF?

Though I'm v jealous of her legs.

I watched it with my 85 year old Mum - I was quite relieved when she said 'I can't understand a word that girl is singing'. Grin

Was I the only one who thought it was a bit mean on Cheryl - her replacement in America is the star turn on Si's other show? Couldn't understand her accent either!!!

She is 32, I just think the whole girl singing explicit lyrics, gyrating on stage, simulating sex etc is just not on. I don't think its prudish either I like sex too but its just so overt on TV at 9p.m

She is a twat.

DP was very impressed by her "musical ability" and thought the over all performance was wonderful.

He is also a twat.

Me and Dh heard this song on the radio and I said 'God, this is awful, Rhianna gets worse and worse, this song is not suitable for kids.'

Turned out to be Nicole Sherzingerfingerface.

All these pop stars ever do is use their sexuality. Sick to the back teeth of it.

YANBU

YANBU. I felt a bit sorry for her, though she is very attractive the gyrations and lyrics didn't look sexy but simply cringey and embarrassing.

I wasn't really Bothered by the dancing so much, it was the words. My 12yo is constantly singing along to pop songs, and the thought that she might go around singing that in public makes me cringe!

Ironic that 1 of the items on the ITN news immediately after BGT final was about the sexualisation in pop music, mentioned Mumsnet to regarding campaign re clothes.

Agree, I was shocked at the lyrics. My dc were watching.

It was obscene, I agree. Especially when they must know children are watching. I think she was there purely because she is Mr. Cowell's latest 'big thang'.

Having said that, I bet if I was shagging Lewis Hamilton I would want to sing a song like that too. Smile

Yup - she is articulate when she is interviewed and came across well as a guest judge on x factor.

Why she would feel the need to gyrate open legged dressed as a dead swan and singing stuff about "put it in me" is beyond me....

I am no prude but we can't watch music TV any more in this house because of all the gyrating and arse shots to the camera....(i have DSs)

It has got so much worse in the last 5 yrs....

These songs are utter SHITE.

I don't have digital tv or see any music vids, but where is all the good 'pop' music now? Is this it?? It was just waaay over explicit and dull dull dull.

Report
Katiekitty · 04/06/2011 22:56

It was god-awful.

The words were straight out of a porn scenario and completely inappropriate for a mainstream pop act to perform on a family show.

Degrading and exploitative in the extreme for Nicole and for every woman who had the misfortune to be watching - is that what we're reduced to now?

I despair

I heard the song on the radio today and thought it was Rhianna, and that the lyrics were OTT. I was a bit disappointed to find out it was Nicole S. I thought she was a bit classier than that.
