To Find This A Bit Ironic?

DP's parents are obsessed with wills and inheritances. Who inherited what in the past is a favourite topic of conversation of theirs. Recently DP's wealthy grandfather died and DP's mother cut up a stink about being left out of the will by her father, threatened to challenge the will, sue the two siblings who got everything and negotiated a settlement with them of around 100k. DP's uncle, his father's brother, also died and left his father 250k.

Since then, they have been spending the money on new cars, a new luxury motorhome, a second holiday home (no mortgage on first holiday home or their main home), and lengthy holidays (both are retired).

Now, am I being strange, or are they missing the irony here of them not giving anything to their own children, or indeed their 3 very young and recent grandchildren? Particularly from DP's grandfather's estate? I am not talking a lot, but a few thousand would have been a nice gesture. Particularly for DP's sister, who has just given birth to her second child.

(theres no question of them giving money for school or university fees in the future (they don't believe in private schools or assistance through university) and often remind their children not to expect anything when they die.

Is this a strange attitude or not by them? I don't quite know what to think. I know in my family it would have been different, but families are families and do things their own way. What do others people think though?

I think its quite typical tbh, people who are very obsessed about inheriting money and what money they are owed etc, it is because they are money grabbing type of people, and that is the same people who like to spend a lot to treat themselves and not give anything to others. Basically they are selfish. I wouldn't think it's that rare. Not nice at all though, a lot of people seem to be like that these days
