AIBU?

to be worried that I've blown it!

When I phoned about the job early last week, they said they were hoping to interview at the end of 'next week' - which is now this week. We had a good chat and it seemed very positive.

I sent my CV and covering letter in last Wed, they replied on Thur asking what my salary requirements were. I replied the same day, stating a figure but saying I was flexible. I haven't heard anything back and the silence is killing me! Am worried I've shot too high and they've discounted me... Technically I'm over-qualified but I seriously want the job.

Do I contact them to see if I've got an interview? Contact them to ask if my salary requirements met their expectations? Or wait another day or two? Don't want to appear pushy but don't want to miss the chance of getting an interview if the only problem is I went in too high.

The head office where the application initial goes to is in America but the job is in the UK, so the delay could just be that 2 offices are dealing with it...??!!

I really want this job, have been unemployed for a while and am going slightly bonkers... So ABIU worrying so much that they haven't been in touch yet?

If it's a big company, it's more than possible they're just being a bit slow. If there are two offices involved, it's probably just that someone is busy or has forgotten to do their part.

I feel your pain, there's nothing worse than waiting! - but try not to panic yet. I'd wait until next week (i.e. after the deadline has passed) before you get in touch.

Also if you do contact them, I wouldn't mention the salary specifically. I'd just ask for an update and if it is bad news, you can then ask for feedback and see what they say.

Best of luck and I hope you get it!

Thanks Freesias - you're right, it's sooooo hard waiting. I'm a gal of action, sitting back and patiently waiting does not come easily to me!

Cheers again for the advice.

You're not teaching me to suck eggs MinesaG&T, I appreciate the advice. They definitely are getting a bargain but I forget that sometimes... you know how not having a job can suck away your self esteem over time...

It was a strong application, I know I'd be great in the role, but was having a bit of a wobble Confused and want to know how other people would play it. All advice helps!

Stay calm, dont invest too much into it, and assume you arent getting the job. Then if you do it will be at the pay rate you want.

Finding good staff is pretty hard. Its never just about the lowest accepted salary so play it cool.
