AIBU?

To wish I'd attended this Republican street party last Friday?

American news network CNN have filmed a report about a republican street party held in London last Friday. It can be viewed here on YouTube:

Having watched the report, I now wish I'd made the effort to attend it rather than having a lie-in and keeping the television switched off.

Does anyone else wish they'd gone to the event?

Nope, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the wedding on the telly and partying afterwards with my friends and family.

Grin

Maybe on the next Royal Wedding you could go?!

Immensely relieved I didn't get an invite as it didn't look like a barrel of fun, and all that earnestness has made me feel like grabbing some more zzzzz's.

No fan of the RF but wish they'd reinstate the crowns [smile) After all, m/netters are monarchs of all they survey.

I dont think a republic would go down very well
Look what happened last time
no fun

Banning Christmas, football, pubs fasting one day a month etc

sounds like hell

I avoided our neighbour's royal wedding barbecue rather than be the republican damp squib at it (sounded like a corking knees up by the state of the hangovers the following afternoon - went on till 5am).

Managed to avoid all the TV coverage - found as many DVDs with explosions and loud bangs as it was possible to watch :D

It was dreadfully polite and sedate, wasn't it? It doesn't make Republicanism very exciting-sounding really.

If Britain were to become a republic again, the Cromwell era would certainly not be used as a blueprint.

If there had been any rowdy behaviour at the event, the various pro-royal newspapers would have leaped at the opportunity to portray republicans in a negative light.

Still, it wasn't much of a party. What are their chants on demonstrations like? "Whadda We Want? A Republic! When Do We Want It? In A Sensibly Managed Realistic Time-Frame Within Budget Constraints!"

The left ain't what it used to be...

Nope, enjoyed our Royal Wedding street party far too much. Not a huge fan of the monarchy, but I'll tell you this, I have never seen so many people of different ages, races and creeds coming together to celebrate something together before and that in itself was lovely.

Also, the idea that people object to people celebating the wedding sits badly with me. Forget the royal aspect, first and foremost a young couple in love got married.
