SIL inviting people to my 30th birthday

At MIL's house, SIL still lives at home, her extended family were round (the family are so huge that there are often so many people there you dont get to talk to everyone, some of them Ive only been introduced to once despite having a 5 month old!)

I overheard her saying to someone, 'yeah! We are all going down to XXX on saturday, you should totally come! The more the merrier! We'll be at XXX at this time, I'll text you the details'

She was talking about my birthday. [chmm] I then heard older SIL say, actually its for Mammies birthday? but the invitee didnt even hear that and kept talking about how much he couldnt wait to go and join SIL and her friends.

Im fucked off frankly. Cant quite put into words why, but something feels inappropriate about inviting people to someone elses birthday. Its not a private thing I suppose but tickets have to be bought in advance and Ive only got enough for my friends who I myself invited. Ive only been introduced to this person once...

If its a ticketed event in a public place, whats the problem? It isn't exactly a private event is it?

public event, not a private party, so I dont see the issue...

give her ticket in advance and when she asks for their ones say "oh, i only have a certain number, I assumed that you were getting tickets for the extra people you invited."

How cheeky!

Because I dont know the man and he doesnt know me. I dont want to sit at a table of strangers for my birthday.

I did after but they are the type of people who talk over you. She excused it with 'oh but hes xxx's wifes brothers cousin, we've known him for years, hes ok!'

But I dont know him.

I dont care how long you have known someone. If you are going out for the birthday girl then you dont hijack it with your own friends. Poor form.

Is it an event at which you can split "your party" off from the public event?

If they "crash" everything, you could always have some fun, asking uninvited guests where your birthday present is!
