YABU. This is not a AIBU topic!

Grin

I have a Mirena, getting it fitted was less than pleasant, but it works a treat. I haven't had a period in years. I like it much better than the implant.

Getting the mirena put in was really painful and I felt faint afterwards, was told that having a full bladder would've helped but that news came too late! The benefits are great though, and my periods stopped after about a year.

Had the Mirena, had it taken out after 6 months of almost continual bleeding. I wouldn't use it again.

Fine for the first 3 months and then gradually had the most awful periods of my life. Very, very heavy flow, twice as long and painful cramps. Had it taken out after 18 months.

Yep, copper coil twice, after each pregnancy. 1st time it was pretty uncomfortable but not exactly painful - like a rather prolonged smear test. 2nd time it was a breeze and over v quickly - I guess my cervix never recovered from DD2's speedy delivery Grin

It's nowhere near as bad as a cervical sweep so if you've ever had one of them you'll be fine.

Was uncomfortable going in (Mirena) but no issues in the year I've had it. I get a day of light spotting once a month. So far so good :)

I had a copper coil fitted 12 weeks post partum and for me it was fine, wasn't uncomfortable at all, well certainly no more than a bog standard smear test. Possibly easier to insert soon after giving birth?

I had my DD with me and because she wouldn't stop crying I cuddled her on the examination table and half way through had to start bfeeding her. I was surprised when he was finished because I hadn't really felt anything and I asked him if he'd really done it.

I had read that it could be really painful so had taken 2 paracetamol before I went but didn't need anything else.

I should add that I had it fitted at the Family Planning & Sexual Health Clinic, not by my GP. I'd been advised to not get the GP to do it, I'm glad that I got a Dr who fits them all the time so clearly knew exactly what he was doing.

Yes, last Wednesday. Didnt hurt getting it fitted (brave :) ) but now I have a vvvv sore tummy and back and I feel quite sorry for myself.

It can only get better from now! (Hopeful)

Ive had the mirena twice - no problems going in, first time total absence of periods after 6 months, second time I still got periods but they were light. Getting it out the second time was uncomfortable as Nurse couldnt quite get a hold of it initially but not agony. Now Im ttc again - but would have no qualms getting it again.

Had mine fitted 2 months after having my daughter. Never gave birth or dilated (c-sec) so cervix was "honeymoon fresh" (nurse's words) ... Confused

Speculum, like a smear. Lots of fiddling about. I think they did some kind of local anaesthetic, which felt cold and weird and, well a bit yuck. I had a doctor and a nurse, both female.

They didn't show it to me but I didn't ask.

The low point was that they had to put a "clamp" on my cervix to keep it in place as the bastid things can wave about apparently (great!)

That felt awful - initially, bite-on-your-hand-and-pant horrible, within 2 seconds, a knawing pain but bearable, but feel-sorry-for-yourself-yuck.

They put something up through into your uterus to "measure" your uterus. To make sure it fits? To cause you extra pain? God knows but I felt it as it hit the side of my uterus, and winced. They withdrew that.

She then put the Mirena in. At this point we were talking about the Hush Autumn/Winter range and their colourways...so it was over before I knew it Grin

I was then done. I was asked to sit in the waiting room for 15 minutes or so so they could check I was okay and make sure I didn't pass out as I was driving myself (and my newborn!) home.

Got home fine. Was pouring my second glass of Shiraz when the doctor actually rang me to make sure I got home okay and that I was fine.

Bled a bit after - not initially, for at least 2 weeks I didn't, then I spotted for about a month, then sporadic spotting (and never more than spotting) for a while, then this settled to 2 days of spotting once a month. As periods go, that is pretty good.

Hormonally I'm not so sure, but I cannot honestly tell you whether its the coil or not that is causing my mood swing craziness (which I never had before) or if its actually my children - I have 2 kids 2 years apart who are both at a difficult age. I really can't see the wood for the trees but think its probably fine if I didn't have these extra things to deal with.

Good luck. Let us know how you go x

I have the Mirena, I'm quite happy with it. It was uncomfortable getting it fitted but I have no periods and can pretty much get on with my life without worrying about it.

Both my DCs were conceived whilst I was taking the pill. I've had the mirena coil in for 3 years and have not fallen pregnant, so all in all its been a success for me Grin

Just had my first fitted at my post natal check after DC2. No probs at all, agree was like a smear test in terms of discomfort, my GP is fabulous with all things pg /contraception and baby related though so only took a few mins.

Not had a period yet as bfing so can't comment.

My question...can you still use tampons? The booklet said not but GP didn't mention it?
