To ask you what contraceptive you use?

I don't know what to use!

I'm 38 with two DC...I reacted very badly to the pill as a younger woman...tried many kinds over the years and found they made me feel sick...put on weight etc..and hven't used it for about 8 years. I can't ABIDE the thought of a coil or an implant and assume the injection would make me sick like the pill.

After DC2 who is now 3 I went right off sex and so contraception was barely an issue...but now I'm back to myself and don't know what's best.

At the moment we use condoms but neither of us likes them and we had two occasions lst month where we failed to use them.(stupid)

What can I DO? Dh mntioned himself getting the snip but for some reaon I don't like the idea! I don't think he's that keen either.

i use condoms because the pill makes me very sick and very moody. i don't like the idea of putting all those hormones into my body when a condom doesn't affect either partner.

I'm the same Booyhoo...very moody and always worrying about the hormones I'm swallowing. DH keeps hinting at the pill but wy should I fgs? I'm 38...Ive had 2 sections and I'm knckered...I don't want to bother with the pill or injections.

There's also the diaphragm. It's quite hard to get fitted for one nowadays - medical professionals are very keen on methods that don't involve any effort on the part of the user (implants, Mirena etc.). And it does require a bit of practise to get the thing in properly, and the forsight to get it in before things get going. It works very well as a no-break-at-the-heat-of-the-moment alternative to condoms though.

:)

EXP was the same. he kept saying "you know it would be easier if you just took the pill".

aside from the fact that i have a terrible memory and am not so hot on routine, the thing made me ill. why on earth would i chose to do something to make me ill just for his convenience? the inconvenience to him of putting on a condom is far outweighed by the inconvenience to me of taking daily hormones. i also dislike the fact that the pill absolves him of any responsibility for contraception. it most definitely would have been my fault if i had fallen pregnant.

Depo Provera for me, despite lots of people not getting on with it. It works for me as it stops my very painful, heavy periods although major side effect is weight gain.

Oh did i say i was one of the very tiny % that feell pregnant on it!

The pregnancy wasn't discovered as i had no periods to miss-miscarried fairly late on and was diagnosed by emergency scan to find cause of huge bleed :-(

But despite that i am still on it and keeping every crossed i don't fall into that percent again!

Vasectomy for your dh? If you've completed your family.

Sterilisation for you?

I use the Mirena. No periods, no thinking about contraception for 5 years. Try to get over your can't abide-ness?

I use condoms and have done for about 18 months with no problems at all. I previously used the minipill (cerazette) and I put on 3 stone, and I got really depressed. Only realised after about the worst 8 months of my life, that maybe this black cloud could be due to something....
Also I never wanted to have sex, which is possibly why it was so effective!

My mother has a brain tumour caused by too much oestrogen, I questioned the specialist about whether it could be due to hormonal contraceptives and he said 'perhaps', so with that in my family I have decided to keep away from extra hormones Grin. I am considering the copper coil.

We use condoms. I loved the pill but stopped at 35 because of age and hormones. Dh is supposed to be getting the snip but since he keeps putting it off its condoms for now...

I have tried loads of pills, most of them made ms literally insane, the one that didn't got me good and pregnant. Hmm

Anyway, I didn't like the idea of the coil (although not really sure of my reasons why) so tried the implant which has been fine for me. I'm on my 2nd one now.

I've used the pill - was okay for years but won't go back to it after a horrid experience on Micro-Gynon.

The diaphragm - great for a regular sex life when you can say "just gotta pop me diaphragm in" without losing the moment. Have to be comfortable inserting it. Big margin for user-error though, got to be very consistent. Have to insist a bit at the family planning clinic to get fitted for one.

The copper coil - loved it. Am pregnant now but will definitely get a coil again after baby is born.

Implant, but hate it. I'm constantly bleeding.

Trying to convince DH to get the snip.

My sister is using a patch. She is really happy with it. She sticks it to her bum cheek and replaces it once a week. She gets it on the NHS but her new doctor keeps trying to convince her to change as it is quite costly. Another option for you though :)

Condoms.

For 6 years now (with a break for DS2).

After having DS1 neither DH or I fancied hormonal contraception and I know my cycle so we can occasionally go without.

Mycro Gynon was bad for me too iskra. The only thing that I think will be fair is for him to get th snip. Im currently having a pregnancy scare and waiting for DH to get back with a test.

The fear is enough to make me think that yes...our family is complete!

Contraception is so bloody annoying. There isn't anything that doesn't have a downside or two. Been using condoms but I'm going to have the implant next week. In the past have used various pills, mirena and depo provera injection.

Pills... you might have to experiment and swap pills a bit to find one that suits you. The mini pill was best for me. I liked it but it's to easy to miss one.

Mirena... had it for 5 years no problem apart from short threads that stabbed my exh's willy a few times! Wouldn't have another for fear of that happening again.

Depo.. is ok but annoying having 12 weekly appointments

So seeing as I seem to get on with the type of hormone that is in the implant, I will be having it next week... then hopefully 3 years and no worries and no further appointments. Fingers crossed.

Same as BooyHoo

I went back on the pill last month as I stopped BF.
Worst thing ever! I was moody, tired, eating everything and spotty. I noticed that when I came off it last time, I felt so much better and, sex drive went through the roof! Condoms it is :)

I had the same problem with that mini pill. I put on so much weight. When is the male pill being invented!!! Grin
