AIBU?

...to think that if you leave your laptop underneath a cushion or laying on the floor, you shouldn't be suprised when someone cracks the screen?!

Argh... just that really. For the second time this year I have broken the LCD screen on DPs netbook. The first time I knelt on it when it was underneath a cushion on the sofa, this morning I stepped on it in the dark when it was on the floor of the bedroom. Both times the screen cracked. I'll replace it again (last time I got a new screen for £45 and DP fitted it himself, this time I might as well get him a new netbook since it was only £199 in the first place and it's running pretty slowly these days).

I know I was the one to actually break it both times, but really, AIBU to think he should put it somewhere safe when he's not using it, and it is a least partly his fault?!

I know I'm probably being a bit of a mug to replace it, but I do feel a bit guilty. It is kind of my responsibility to check where I'm stepping/kneeling too.

He should pay for his mistake putting it in harms way!

Feet go on floors.

I stepped on an IT guys phone at work once, it was on the floor as he had been working on the floor on a harddrive.
He was like "Hey!" all annoyed, but I just said, "feet go on floors!"

Dont you dare pay for it!

No - if he leaves his expensive stuff lying on the floor or under cushions he has nobody to blame but himself. IMO.

YABU watch where you are stepping and check the couch before you sit down. I think he should be able to leave his laptop wherever he likes and you should spend all day every day looking out for it.

It's not your responsilibty to check where you walk ffs.
I once left my laptop on the bed while I went for a shower, and DP broke the screen by accident. I paid because it was my own bloody fault that I left it on the bed.

Um...no, it's not. You step on the floor on the dark, you should be able to assume you won't be stepping on £200 worth of electronics. Don't buy him a new one Confused

From the other perspective - I'm the one who leaves stuff ins illy places and I take full responsibility for the fact that if dd2 treads on the keyboard and mashes, or spills juice on it cos I left juice next to it that that is my fault...

Dh despairs in me Sad and I would definitely pay for the repairs myself!

PMSL mmsmum. Grin Well, when you put it like that...

OK, so I steadfastly shan't be paying for a new one.

EngelbertFustianMcSlinkydog (amazing name) he defrags/scans the goddamn thing religiously. I personally think he's got too much scanning crap on there and it's that which actually slows it down, but what do I know. Hmm He also decided to upgrade the Windows 7 Basic to the all-singing-all-dancing version which a £200 netbook clearly isn't quite equipped to handle, but again I was assured that it was all already on there with the features disabled. I don't really care so stay out of it.
