AIBU?

to not like onion tops on my daughters?!

My youngest's hair is about 1-2" long, it barely touches her forehead. She went out for the day with Mum yesterday to play with her cousin and SIL put her hair in two onion tops! I'm not a fan of them in anyone's hair, but fair enough it's your child but I HATE them in my child's hair! They know this I complained enough with my eldest.

Oh and they were in so tight that they were in for two whole days without moving and she cried when I took them out because it was so hard to grip and elastic bands so it pulled her hair!

Don't get me wrong, my eldest's hair comes down her back, she's like me and loves it long, I do a double french plait for school every morning and we play hair dressing where I put it up in different styles for her (not quite like that princess hair blog if anyone's seen it but different things to the normal) but when it comes to baby hair, it needs to be left alone! She doesn't have a lot and it's really fine, what's the point in these silly little bits of sticky up tufts???

I think perhaps you are a slightly obsessed with hair.

What is an onion top?

What's an onion top? Is it where the hair is twirled tightly into a little ball? And not even knowing what they are, YANBU, baby hair needs to be left alone... brushed, maybe a little barrette to pull hair from eyes when it gets that long, but left alone.

It's a little tuft of a pony tail on the top of their head that serves no function. Looks like an onion.

I'm not obsessed with hair, I just think babies should be left alone to grow their hair before having it messed with. I put my eldest's hair up because she needs it up for school and anything other than two french plaits comes out before she gets home, most of the time at home she doesn't have anything done but sometimes we see what creations we can come up with.

GotArt, you've reminded me my youngest will walk around with a brush for ages brushing her hair, she's got barely anything to brush, it's so cute! When I'm getting her sister ready for school she'll sit next to me waiting for me to brush her hair, but she has so little I'm more pretending for her than anything.

Oh... they do look like onions! Grin

I was told by a friend who's a hairdresser that brushing stimulates hair follicles. Whatever, I love having my hair brushed too; feels great. Grin

How funny, I've never heard the term 'onion tops' before, but yes they do look a bit like onions! Grin
Is it to maybe keep their hair out of their eyes?

Yanbu, ESP if they used elastic bands. Ouch. Did I get that right, not proper hair ties but normal elastic bands. Ouch.

Enough said. They hurt her. I'd flip. Tell them to leave her hair well alone and stop treating her like a doll.

They are horrible and pointless. Like frilly headbands on bald baby girls.

YANBU!

They look daft. I hate headbands too!

Report
Vajazzler · 03/03/2011 07:08

So if you hate them so much why were they in for 2 whole days before you removed them?
YANBU but if that were my child i'd have removed them immediately!

Got to agree with Vajazzler - I'd have taken a nail scissors to the elastic bands and got rid at the first opportunity (whilst she was asleep more than likely).

Errgghh that is horrible!

I saw a mum at the Surestart centre putting a little bunch of her baby's hair in a band with loads of sparkly things on it. Baby did NOT look happy and cried when the mum pulled her hair into it Sad
I judged.

If I am ever tempted to do that with my baby girl, please feel free to slap me Grin

Oh dear.

I used to do this to my daughters hair. I thought she looked like Pebbles Flintstone Blush

they are hideous, YANBU

I think people do it so that people can tell their babies with very little hair are girls.

Other than that have absolutely no opinion on them.

My girls didn't have them because I took the view that life was too short to be wrestling with so little hair for good reason.

In my defence I had to do something with my girls hair because she had so much of it..it was in her eyes by the time she was 6 months old and I was too scared to get it cut (she was a wriggler, and still is 15 years on!)

She also used to get bits of rusk stuck in it, so she must have looked very attractive, eh? Grin
