I find Boris Johnson physically unattractive. I cannot conceive of a situation in which I would wish to have sex with him. But there are people out there who not only fancy him, but who have had sex with him. This does me no harm. It harms no other human being. Why would I take a moral stance on this?

If consenting adults wish to have sex, set up home together, whatever, what business is it of anyone else? I just don't get it.

I do quite like it when a politician gets caught out I have to admit - particularly when they've been beating the 'family values' drum.

In fairness BJ isn't one of those politicians and i don't think his extra marital shagging is going to interfer with his job as mayor - so, no, I don't really care.

I think it stems from the really fairly recent(in historical terms) change of status of homosexuality from being illegal in this and many other countries. I can see, at least in principle, how difficult it could be for an older generation to accept that something that was actually forbidden within their own childhood, or was sternly described to them in terms of a sin, is a natural state of, what, 10% of humanity.

Apart from that, well, it beats me how half the people I know ever got anyone interested in getting up close and personal...

Yes, it's in response to another thread, but I didn't want to derail that one. It's full of people saying that they are not homophobic, but that they think homosexually is wrong. I just don't understand how morality is applicable to the consenting sexual choices of other people. It's like having a moral stance on eating ice cream, or wearing a jacket. I want someone to spell out for me exactly why they think it is wrong.

Boris has been caught with his pants down (metaphorically, thank goodness). I thought this was a thread about whether adultery is something relevant to fitness to hold public office.

If so, I can't make up my mind. On one hand I do think that private life is irrelevant to, and that performance in role is the key thing. But I also think that it can be indicator of integrity and character (obviously depending on circumstances and actual conduct), and for certain offices that in itself could be a relevant indicator.

Yes Orm, I know how common it is. But I cannot for the life of me understand why? How does someone justify that judgement? If I want to say that Murder is morally wrong, I have a range of justifications for that, which most people, religious or not, would agree with. But what possible justification is there for caring what goes on in a stranger's bed?

People feel they have to condemn something they do not understand. Also judgement is at the very core of religion, so old habits die hard maybe?
