Baby in hairdressers

Im being unreasonable Im sure, but hes new Im only just learning where is and is not appropriate to take a baby!

Hes well behaved and I purposely booked a time when he has his nap. But when I asked they said I cant take him in with me

Is that normal or are they just being mean?! Ive seen babies in salons before!

oh, i wouldn't like the idea of all that hair falling over him.

would he be in a pram or carrier?

I suppose they're of the mind that if he woke up halfway through a haircut/colour/whatever they would have to find someone to look after him because you couldn't?

I've had my baby with me and even managed to bf him under the gown thing whilst my hair was cut! He was 4 wks at the time! The ladies their loved him so YANBU

Nah, I think they're right. What if he wakes up? You might know he's well-behaved but they don't and I can't imagine anyone says 'can I bring my baby? He's a screamer I'm afraid' :o

I took my son into hairdressers...can't understand why they said no. I'd still turn up with him tbh.

Their salon their choice I guess but it seems a bit odd. I'd think YANBU!

I often take dgs with me and have done since he was very small-no one minds at all and they have a toy corner where older toddlers can play and there are children's books too.YANBU

I would imagine they are worried that you might only get half a haircut if he wakes. Also I would imagine that there may be issues with H&S or insurance. A pram or baby seat may block a fire exit or someone may trip over it and try and sue the hairdressers.

Can't you find someone to sit with yur baby or take him foir a walk whilst yu enjoy yourhaircut and adult (well hairdersser)conversation

i think it would be really awkward if you were mid cut and he woke up. even if you managed to get him up under your gown, he might wriggle and it would make it difficult to get a good cut. also, you wont be relaxed if you have to juggl him. can anyone watch him for you and give you a break?

The air in a salon is full of chemicals. Really not healthy for a baby. Probably more damaging than cigarette smoke.

But what if he woke up?

Feeding or holding a baby while having your haircut is a risk considering how corse a strand of freshly cut hair can be. I would be concerned for the babies eyes and I'm sure the hairdresser would be concerned about mucking your cut up if the baby wouldn't stay still?

Depends on the salon. Mine is always very happy for me to come in with my baby during the week, but it's quite a big salon. I wouldn't take her with me on a Saturday though as it gets very busy and noisy. Would it be worth finding another hairdresser who would accomodate you?

I'd be more worried at the risk of a dodgy haircut due to the stylist not being able to concentrate due to a squawking baby, than hair falling on the baby!

A lot of people see the hairdresser as a bit of a treat or "me" time, and it's those customers they're probably thinking of

I took dd when she was 4 mo approx, was mid week and only for a fringe geun. She sat on my knee and stared at us in the mirror. She git a bit antsy towards the end, I felt uncomfortable with that as others were relaxing so cut it short. (No pun intended.)

Surprised they have a policy on it.

I wouldn't have even asked. It'll be fine. What kind of cut are you having? If you're talking a two hour fancy job then maybe see if you can get someone to sit, but for a simple half hour wet cut then I doubt it'll matter.

I used to take DS till he was about 12months. Then it got a bit awkward. The salon said it was OK but I felt uncomfortable especially as he could howl when all the hairdryers came on in unison !

I much prefer going by myself now for a little pamper without the worry.

Just didnt realise salons would say no to having babies in there. Ive seen loads of babies in salons over the years!

Ive got really long hair, no fringe, no layers (v boring) so its literally a trim!

Each salon is individual though. Some have more room, some have more staff and some are desperate for business.

Do you have to take the baby into that sort of environment though? What about a mobile hairdresser who'll come to your home?

This place is very cheap. I guess thats the trade off!

How old is he? If its a really busy salon the noise of the hairdryers may be a problem or even a health risk if hes under four weeks old.
