Hello Mumsnet,

I'm currently writting my dissertation and need your help!! I'm looking into the clothing advertisied in pre teen magazines and want your opinion on a range of clothing called Lipsy. As I dont have any children yet I cant really have a justified opinion but you can! Woould you allow your teen/pre teen wear these kinds of dresses

www.lipsy.co.uk/

Your opinions will really help me and all comments will remain anonymous.

many many many thanks

Ruth

My DD is 12. She wouldn't be interested in wearing this style of clothing. Most of them have got quite low necklines and she doesn't feel comfortable with that yet. She does wear a lot of mini skirts or short tunic styles - e.g. H&M. I don't have a problem with that as she'll generally mix them with leggings or chunky tights and it looks cute rather than tarty.

If she were to be interesting in Lipsy style clothing I'd probably try and steer her away from it as I think it's oversexualised for a 12 year old.

Agree with Mardy.

DD is 13 and wouldn't like those clothes, as even she (who is tall and can look very grown up) would look and feel far too exposed in them. She likes wearing dresses and short skirts but nothing cleavage-exposing, mainly because she has no bust to speak of! And I certainly wouldn't encourage, or even allow, her to dress like that at her age.

I have a 13 yr old DD and she wouldn't wear any of those dresses even if you could get her into a dress. I wouldn't really be happy with most of the dresses either. They may be okay for older teens but not young or preteens.

Noticed they had a limited rangee of David and Goliath on the webset, she loves their tshirts ie "come over to the darkside, we have cookies"

Lipsy's an adult clothes brand, style, sizes...it even lists itself as women's clothing on their website

I'd have said it was aimed at 18 yr olds

so no, I'd not let my pre-teen wear adult's dresses

I don't understand -these are adults clothes and you are asking about preteens who would be what 10,11,12? they wouldn't surely even fit most kids that age.
It seems a very odd post?

I have a Lipsy party dress and I'm 37. Oh dear. Maybe IBU.

I have dds aged 14 and 17. The dresses on the website look more like clothes their teachers would wear on a Saturday night out. (Most of their teachers are 30ish)

Alot of 12/13 year olds will fit into those clothes. DD 13 is 5'5 and size 6 and been wearing adult clothes for over a year.
