to think thathaving anonymous conversations on MN beats facebook chat with 'friends', hands down!?

I deactivated my FB about 4 months ago after getting so fed up with it and discovered MN a few weeks ago. I seem to enjoy it so much more..is this normal to enjoy online chat with complete strangers more than with your actual friends?!

have to agree especially with the friday / saturday night sillies threads on chat topic on here. So much fun and brilliant banter. And a fair few pics of Keanu Reeves, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Colin Firth... Grin

I think it depends,I love fb for keeping in touch with db who is a lot younger and lives miles away, and as a recent widow I have added a lot of ladies/gents in a similar position and we use fb as mutual support so if anyone is having a bad day we can add messages of support, and are all in same boat as it were.Mumsnet is fab though, you can post on all sorts of threads depending on how you are feeling, and I have recently returned after an absence and am enjoying being back here.Horses for courses I guess

indeed - I;m loving it nere on MN! Got so bored with FB after 3 years of not really caring about what 95% of my friends list were doing but kept feeling like I had to check it every 5 mins. The boasting types on it annoyed me so much too!

i've found that since deactivating FB I have resumed much more intimate and personal contact with those that I really cated about as opposed to just liking their status or photo of newborn baby!!

Unless you have thousands of Facebook friends then there are loads more people on MN so you'll get a wider variety of experiences and views.

I talk to my RL friends, or email or text. There is very little that I need to say to every single one at the same time. I don't need to know every mundane detail of their lives or every random thought that crosses their minds. I certainly don't need to know that they have bought a gnu on Farmville!

The one thing for which Facebook is any use to me, is organising group events or activities.

MN is not friends like RL friends, but is more community of peers than FB.

I think the anon. factor allow people to speak more freely can make for good convo
