AIBU?

To sometimes think AIBU

has turned in to a fight club despite that not being its purpose?

It just seems everything and anything kicks off, grown up and sensible debate that was once so commonplace here has been replaced with a few choice words, and instead of grown up interaction it seems like the terms "troll" "bigot" "daily mail reader" "jog on" are thrown in when people can not make grown up or sensible comments

Yes.

It's true.

I think AIBU should be scrapped and 'What would you do?'put in place instead so people actually give advice rather than slating poster

You are correct - there is an awful lot of intolerance on here. If anyone comes close to expressing an opinion that goes against the general "The-State-should-sort-my-problems-out-for-me-and-Tories-are-evil-tossers" ethos on here, they are lynched.

ooh, do we need a little mooning emoticon and a bogey flicking one Grin

I think sometimes people just want to be mean.

You can see it particularly well when they lay into the OP for something they didn't even actually SAY! And twist everything to make it fit the kicking.

cyb - there IS a what would you do topic.

Nobody uses it.

Gosh, who'd've known. Interesting term. I shall have to try to include it in tonight's conversation with dh and see if he knows what I'm talking about...

AIBU is IMHO the worst thing to ever happen to MN.

It has stiffled debate. now rather than giving a scenario and awaiting reply, the Op is merely asking for people to reply with one word answers, or worse still just insults.

I would like to see it gone. Because there are a decent number of posters who are incapable of intelligent debate.
They would either learn how to better articulate themselves or just not bother.

Either way it would feel a whole lot less "jeremy Kyle" in here.

be very careful gra - he may misunderstand and think you are offering him a personal service Wink

What annoys me is the people who post in AIBU just to be seen, eg "AIBU to not be able to find a good recipe for chicken chasseur?" when they should be in recipes. There are at least two million examples of this every day.

God, Hectate, that's a point. He'll think his luck's in for once.

Ah I see. So if I wanted to say how wonderful Norman was, I could change my name to MichaelTheBeachPoliceman/BossyRoss/ etc and post on the same thread, saying wonderful things about him.

I have been on some AIBU debates and that is what they have been, people expressing difference in opinions, but then I have seen some where there is a blatant attack on the op and for not any good reason.

We are all entitled to our opinions and yes it is easy on here to get carried away but I do think it goes to far sometimes, name calling and being personal. Can get a little OTT sometimes!

I don't think I have ever started a thread uner AIBU - but maybe that's because it has never occurred to me that I might be being unreasonable... Hmm

well yes, gram. We all want to be seen Grin if you want to chat, are you going to post where nobody will see it, or where lots of people will see it?

Do you post just to post, or do you post to get replies?

Comes back to the party thing I mentioned on another thread. here
