To refuse to let them take my coffee machine for repair...

Got a fecking great shock off it yesrday when I unplugged it to move it. Shocked me when it was unplugged so seems to have held a charge so most likely faulty (DH is an electrician).

Anyway, spoke to the maker and they immediately said they would replace it but would need the old one back. All fine so far.

Today they ring to say we can't have a new one, they want the old one back to fault check it first to see if they can 'repair' it. This means we could be without it for a few weeks.

Would I be unreasonable to (1) refuse and insist on a replacement or (2) take it back to where I got it from and get them to give me a new one (its still under full waranty). Or do I have to let them try and fix it?

Sorry for the utter dullness of this AIBU but I love my coffee machine...

I would take it back to the shop and ask for a replacement!! Surely they would then send it back to the manufacture themselves!!

It depends how long you have had it for and where you purchased it from.

The first 30 days are generally covered by where you purchased from the remainder the manufacturer.

However it is not fit for purpose would personally take back to where you got it and ask for a replacement.

If it's under warranty, they're within their rights to attempt a repair. However, your contract is with the store you bought it from, not the manufacturer, so you can take it back there. They may insist on sending it off for repair too though! Sometimes being firm in a very polite manner will get you a swap instead.

Hmm, we've had this one about 6 months. Shop replaced the last one as the 'reader' stopped working (may have given away the make n manufacturer now but hey ho). Think I will call them one more time and see if I get any joy...
