So annoyed......

Today was my dd's first birthday party. On arrival my dad had some leaves on his shoes....so went outside to get rid. He wiped his shoes and came back in, didn't take his shoes off. I came out of my daughters room to find dog shit on the hall rug and I said "dad thats dog poo you have on your shoe" to which he replies " oh yes i've wiped it". Cue me on hands and knees scrubbing shit off the carpet, and after he left dettolling the carpets throughout and hoovering (aggggghhhh hoovering again!!). Oh and btw he wiped it on the stairs in our communal stairwell which we also had to clean.

Just me but if I walked shit through someone's house (especially one with a toddler) I would:

  1. Be sorry
  2. Clean it up
  3. Remove my shoes

I am so sick of tip toeing around my parents and now I annoyed at myself for not telling him to get his shoes off. I just couldn't face the arguement Angry

YANBU FFS has your dad no common sense? How dumb to not remove his shoes, baby in the house or not!

Oh poor you, what a shit!

Mine is the sort of half witted dithering idiot that would do something like that. Not because he means to but because he has just no idea, is as deaf as a....... and won't be told anything.

I would be fuming.

That is annoying, because I never really made it a rule in my house people seem to bring all sorts in with them on their shoes!

But want to get new carpet soon so I am thinking of putting a huge sign up sayin 'remove your god dam shoes else you can't come in' that is clear enough, don't you think?

I'm struggling to imagine why you wouldn't have said something at the time & just TOLD him to remove his shitty shoes & handed him the cleaning equipment with a smile & a "I've got XY&Z to do so I'll leave this to you cheers"? No argument required - just tell him direct.

There is still time to get your point in. On the next visit, meet them at the door and say "because Dad trod dog shit into the carpet and nearly ruined it and because it is disgusting and unsanitary (and I am a dog-lover!) for our child we have a new rule - NO SHOES IN THE HOUSE!!

you seem unreasonably upset by your dad..he was probably mortified .

He's your dad - couldn't you have asked him to clean it up??

God I wish it could be just that easy to say to my dad "just clean it up and shoes off please" but it isn't that simple with my parents. I wish it was. Softpaw- He wasn't in any way mortified, he was indignant that I mentioned it again.

There is definitely a NO MORE SHOES RULE from now on and if they don't like it they can f off!
