I was told by a mixed race friend that if you see a black woman with amazing hair then it's a wig.

I worked with several Nigerians in my last job who all wore wigs and said they'd 'changed style'. No one's hair grows six inches between shifts though so it was a tad obvious.

You sure she's not wearing wigs?

i'm black, i love my natural hair but i also use weaves and extensions for braids and so forth!

use straighteners
look at posh and becks , and katie price... Never the same hairstyle for longer than a month

one of my childhood friends is black, i used to envy her about her hair not getting horribly greasy after a day or two (my hair is also prone to frizz and i hate having to straighten it when it's really bad some mornings).

but god, i thought she was joking when she used to tell me it took a lot of work. she only had hair below her chin too, not massively long. THEN i saw her dressing table and all the products she says she needs to keep it under control. i don't think she's exaggerating now that i've seen the pile of it all, since it's someone who isn't really into makeup and beauty otherwise. i very quickly stopped being jealous!!

I love afro hair - it must be a pain to keep moisturised but I think it looks great frizzy or braided, straightened or in ringlets long or short (Halle Berry). YANBU - I would love hair that is so versatile (if very tricky to keep in goo nick)! Tough I am sure some white women have fab hair like this too!

I'm jealous of being able to use weaves - there's no real reason why a white woman can't but it would be considered weird, we dont seem to have an adequate "excuse" whereas if you have afro hair you do because it can be hard to manage.

I'm jealous also of the hairdressers - when I lived in Leyton, East London, many years ago there were some "black" hairdressers, I used to go to one to get my nails done and they have WAY more fun in there than your average "white" hairdresser. Par-tay.

yes it's a lot of work, and lots of black women I know wear wigs, weaves, spend a fortune at the hairdressers and on straightening. My female in-laws all insist on the need for straight hair which is really high maintenance & harsh on the hair/scalp/time.

DD has mixed race hair - my fine dark blonde hair, but massively curly and that takes a lot of work, but it is super gorgeous.

Best bet is always to work with what you've got rather than waste time/energy/braincells envying something you'll never have.
