I know I should be stoned at the MN altar for being a bad parent Blush
But me and dh have never had a holiday alone, even when we met I had dd from a previous relationship so we didnt get chance.
We've had weekeneds away but I am taking dh on a weeks holiday abroad in the sun and I cant bloody wait.
The dcs are staying with their grandparents so will be safe and happy.

Im just so excited about little things like having a beer on the plane, being able to watch the inflight movie, reading a book by the pool in peace all day, getting up when we want and going to be when we want.
Aaaah bliss.

But surely I should be crying into my flight tickets if I was a proper mum Grin

Nothing bad about that.

I went away completely on my own last year. Was bloody lovely. I actually felt guilty though because I wasn't crying into my airticket! Missed dh and ds but not as much as I thought I would.

mosschops - that makes two of us who are bad parents then Blush.

Like you, we haven't had a holiday just the two of us since DS1 was born 10 years ago, other than weekends away. DH and I are going away for the week too and I can barely contain my excitement (although it is interspersed with massive mummy guilt surges :( )

Good for you for being so positive about it and for being so positive about DCs being with your parents and not panicking about them doing things differently etc :)

nope, don't blame you at all!

first time I left the DC was for our 10th wedding anniversary - mum offered to have them so we could have a holiday - we couldn't afford a honeymoon so this was it 10 years late. DS was 3 and DD 18 months when we went. It was fantastic!

GPs now hav ethe DC for 4 or 5 weeks holiday a year - a week at a time. Mostly we get on with DIY projects or work, but once a year we will try to have a weekend away. GPs live 3 plus hours away, so don't babysit or pop round for an hour ever, they really appreciate having the kids for extended periods, and actively ask when they are next coming, and th DC love having extended time with their GPs and the rest of the family who live close by.

it is a win win situation, as we are all pleased to go, and pleased to see each other again.

have a fantastic holiday Grin

I dont feel guilty for going I just feel guilty for not feeling guilty IYKWIM and not having a breakdown at the thought of time away from the dcs like a lot of my friends would/do.

The inlaws have it pretty sussed with the kids so Im not worried about they, they love it round there
